I love English Bulldogs, LOVE THEM. Ever since I was a little, little guy, I've wanted one. I even have one tattoed on my arm. I love these fucking dogs. So whenever I go to the mall, I always stop at the pet store to see if they have any. Today, they did. I was overcome. I stared at her cute little wrinkled face through the window, and imagined taking her home with me. She was so adorable. Just to torture myself even further, I asked the girl how old she was and how much. She said she was 3 months old and that she would have to go check on the price. She goes back behind the cage, to check the price I assumed. Next thing, she comes walking out with the puppy in her arms. She says that I can hold her while she goes and checks on the price. I did. For the first time in my life, I held a Bulldog in my arms. She was sooooo Goddamn gorgeous! I was sure this was it. I would pay for her and take her home. I would have my Bulldog.

The girl comes back and tells me that the dog costs $4399, or $250 a month for 20 months. I swear I almost burst into tears right there in the pet store. There was absolutely no way I could have afforded it. I quickly stretched my brain, did some quick calculations, but it was just not possible for me to swing it, not even remotely. So I held the pup for another few seconds, said goodbye and gave her back to the girl to go back in the cage. I really hope she ends up in a home with someone who will love her and take care of her as much as I would have.

No, but it has babies, all of which can be sold for a hefty sum.

Edit: I'm editing after Funkman's post, because this really pertain to his comments. The dog costs so much because it's a bitch, and babies and blah blah blah. A purebred, male Bulldog goes for between $1000 and $1500, I believe. I'm not really interested in it's stock though. I just want a Bulldog. Pound dogs are fine, more than fine actually. Pound dogs are great. My friend has one and it is, without a doubt, the best dog I have ever known. I love him, but he's not a Bulldog. I want a Bulldog.

I got my dog from North Shore Animal League for free. There are so many dogs that need good homes its almost a crime to pay $4000 for one when these other dogs are just as great and wont cost a thing. I love my dog to death. Shes awesome. Go adopt one.

Thanks to Reefdwella for the great Sig Pic.

You people take me through the whole gamut of emotions. Blak's story actually made a tear in my eye and the blowjob comment cracked me up for about 5 minutes.

I agree with Funkman's suggestion. You will love a bulldog from the pund. You'd save that dog and that dog will be your slave for eternity. Who doesn;t want a slave for eternity? Damn, I gotta get out more. Anyways, you know what I mean. Good luck.

Have you thought of going through a rescue league? (http://www.rescuebulldogs.org/) That way, you can adopt a bull dog that needs a home!

They have one of those pet store deals in i THINK Freehold Mall.

Anyway I try to steer clear of them altogether just for the fact that actually seeing the little baby pups in cages makes my stomach turn. However one day my Brother persuaded me to going into the store and look around with him. As soon as we left the store the first thing he said was "What's REALLY sad is......you know they're not even well taken care of"

I've never gone into another store like that to this day.

Dude, don't ever buy a puppy from a pet store. Sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes you get one that's sick and thats even more heartbreaking.

Try looking at the pound. They sometimes get purebreeds and they do charge a little more for them, but not $4300. You can also look at pictures of them on the internet.

Good luck.

I saw an english bulldog for adoption at the north shore animal leauge last year. I too love these dogs and wanted to get him, but I live in a small place. it would be mean. i got a cat instead. don't get me wrong, i like cats and he's cool, but I love dogs. I'm not going to get a dog for a few years.

But anyway, try shelters you'd be surprised.

I second Alice's idea. Also, you can use <a href="http://www.petfinder.com">petfinder.com</a> to search for bulldogs in shelters. You can find dogs like <a href="http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=2054978&adTarget=468doggeneral&SessionID=3fbba0c63f867111-app1&display=&preview=&row=0&tmpl=">Bubba</a> from NJ there.

I'm guessing you're looking for an english bulldog, not an american bulldog which looks essentially like an american pitbull terrier. If you're looking for a pitbull there are tons to be had at the north shore animal league and the ASPCA and probably just about every other shelter out there.

Time for some responses:

Ninny, I have your coat. I've never been a big Misfits fan, so wearing it isn't really an option for me.

To everyone with the pound or rescue programs, I've looked into both. The pound thing is kind of hit and miss, and the rescue thing kinda turns me off a bit. First off very rarely do they have puppies available, a majority of them are over two years and usually the dogs come from bad homes. Not necessarily abusive as in beatings, although that can be the case sometimes, but underfed or just neglected. Coming from that type of situation really affects a dog's temperment, and I want one that only knows the care, love, and attention I would give it. I don't want to have to make up for some pathetic, disgusting, low-life person's repressed mommy issues. If you're gonna paint a picture, you want a clean canvas, not one that someone 's already scribbled all over.

And last but not least, Zoom, the part about the dog getting sick leads to another part of the story. I left it out in my original telling because I wanted to really convey how sad this whole episode made me. Part of the deal for the 4 grand was that the dog comes with a lifetime warranty. How funny is that? The dog has a lifetime warranty, so if anything breaks, whether due to manufacturer defect or act of God (same thing?) I can bring it in for repairs free of charge. I think they may even give me a loaner dog in the case that they have to keep it in for a few days.

Bulldogs are really fun and goofy but they are an
extremely high maintence breed.
My old roomate is vet. nurse and over time we talked about different breeds and bulldogs are up there as far as problems. Hips, spine, breathing, skin, joints,
and countless others .As far as breeding goes all purebreed bulldog pups are born by cesearian because there heads have been breed to such a large size.

pound dogs rule my dog is 8yrs. old got him at 3 months and its the best.
