I had dinner with a friend from college
the other night who is a pretty connected
sports agent. Mike Piazza came up, about
how he wants to be traded to the
American League League.

Next thing, the subject of the gay rumors
came up. My friend tells me (and I'm not
suggesting or alleging anything here) that
there have been allegations and/or items
in the press about the following NON
OUT athletes being gay. OK, and
maybe my friends knows a little
something else...

Anyway, if you have an opinion, which of
the following do you think is most likely
to be on "the other team" out of the
below.

If you think of another one, post it.

And I didn't add Carl Lewis cause I think
that's pretty obvious and he's retired
anyway. And don't post obvious ones who
are already out or in lesser known sports
like Martina or Greg Louganis.

I voted for Oakley. Then again I am a Met and Steeler fan. I remember the pre-game show that questioned Kordell's sexuality. We had a house at hunter mountain and would watch the pre-game and then listen to the game on the ride home. I told everyone to shut up so I could hear the interview with Kordell. What a mistake.

Is that Jayson williams the one from the Nets or the one from the Bulls that was from Duke? If its the one from the Nets there is no way, the one on the bulls maybe. I am with TheGameHHH saying Kordell is a def.

Either way, why is this such a big deal. DO you really think people will freak if players come out or are found out to be gay. They all fucking do drugs/steroids and beat there wifes or kill people. Whats a little D sippin' gonna hurt?

Out of that list, I would vote for Kordell Stewart twice & Jeff Garcia ten times.

There was a rumor in the past few years about the editor of a gay magazine, in fact I believe it was "Out" magazine, who wrote a column about athlete's needing to come 'out' in public. At the time, he was allegedly dating a member of the Baltimore Orioles. I've heard stories that Brady Anderson was gay, I've even heard Todd Zeile (as AJ mentioned)...but supposedly, the gay Oriole in this case was rumored to be Roberto Alomar.

I voted Jeff Garcia. I've heard from a couple people that Glen Anderson (Edmonton Oilers, NYR's) was gay, I dont know how true it is though.

To non-idiots this is obviously not a homophobic thread. If anything, I did everyone a favor and didn't write a 1,000-word intro on the subject.

But it was presumed that the average reader who follows sports has heard quotes such as a recent one from a certain NBA All-Star saying "5% of all NBA Players are Gay" or watched Inside Sports on HBO where various "insiders" say that so and so is on the verge of coming out and that at least 5 well know players in each of the big four leagues (NHL, NBA, MLG, NFL) are gay.

This may be at least a subject of interest to the extent that it may encourage a debate as to whether an athlete needs to come out or not.

In the meantime, if my friend is a well-connected sports agent on the Leigh Steinberg level, well I, at least, assume he knows more than me on the matter.

And I took care not to post as if I was pointing the finger at anyone. But if you doubt some of the rumors about Oakley, for example, just put his name and "gay" in Google and see what comes up. Does that mean it's true? Of course not. Does that mean we should care? I don't know. I, for one, however, am ashamed to admit that I do have a passing curiosity to know whether one of my favorite ball players is gay or not, in the same way I'm interested in knowing if he's banging some porn star.

You've got your Rusty Staub's and your Rusty Trombones. I'm not talking women's rugby here. I'm sure there are more. Whatevs.

And another thing. I've been a Rams fan since I was 4 years old. What that has to do with anything, I don't know but I'm telling you anyway.
