i didn't know that this was possible, but i saw it happen in another thread. i have no problem with it, really, or with anyone who would request it, but i was just curious about this. you can just request that a thread be locked that you started? do you need a good reason? can you request that a thread someone else started be locked? is there a consideration of whether or not there is continuing real conversation going on in the thread (as opposed to one where it's just degenerated to the point where nothing useful is going on)?

if i've overstepped my bounds by asking this, my bad. but i'd imagine others would be interested to know the answers, as well.

I remember once I started a thread that went way off on some odd tangent and degraded into a fight. Pantera locked it, but also sent me a PM giving me a heads up and told me I could start a new thread to get things back on track. It was odd. A courtesy call for thead locking, now we can request locks.

Customer service is at an all time high here on RF.Net

Obviously, as in all things, it's up to the Moderators discretion. If, for example, someone starts something in the Pol forum and is just getting pounded with good arguments, I mean legitimate points, then any Mod worth his or her salt wouldn't lock it and let the person take their lumps and try and argue their sorry ass position. But on the other hand, I do have a story (I know, how fortunate).
I once posted a picture of my batch rag. I thought it would be a fun little topic and offer ample opportunities for hilarity; other people would post pictures of their 'lonely girlfriend', I'd be hailed as a comic genius,it would be great. I didn't realise that the board and its members were not yet ready for such advanced, mature, and cutting-edge humor. After the 17 disgusted, horrified responses in about 2 minutes, I asked then Lt. Rooster, now Capt., to not just lock it, but to remove completely from the board. He obliged and so it was. I guess it might still be floating somewhere in the Mod room. Anyway that's my story.

If there's a fight in a thread where the original concept is valid, a thread will be locked and the poster will be told they can restart it (furie's case)

If a person is personally attacked or a thread is about them and they feel it has gone awry, they may talk to a moderator about it.

If a person starts a thread and it doesn't go the way they want, shit happens.

If you see a thread that you think may be against our rules or may be close to it, you may notify a moderator and we will watch/lock the thread.

If you see a thread that was locked, and you think it shouldn't have been, you may contact us and the staff will decide as a group. Any decisions we make are final.

All of the above is at the moderator's discression and may be overturned by a decision by the staff.

He removed the thread.
