NEW YORK -- Japanese star Kazuo Matsui has decided to join the New York Mets, with the deal already done, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.
The deal, according to Gammons, is for three years worth $6.7 million annually.
The Mets have traded shortstop Jose Reyes to the Diamondbacks for Raul Mondesi, Gammons says

The Mets have not traded Reyes. ESPN reports that:
The Diamondbacks let three other former players go -- outfielders Raul Mondesi and Felix Jose, and left-handed reliever Mike Myers.
So the Diamondbacks can't trade a guy they just released. This isn't to say the Mets won't trade Reyes stupidly, but they haven't. Yet.

The Mets have traded shortstop Jose Reyes to the Diamondbacks for Raul Mondesi, Gammons says That would have been bullshit! Glad that was wrong.

I have to agree...no way in hell would the Mets trade away Reyes. Unless he is a package deal for Alex Rodriquez, and I doubt that is likely at all. I think the Mets have learned their lesson about giving up on young players before they develop fully (ie. Nolan Ryan, Jason Isringhausen, etc). The only thing that Peter Gammons mentioned is how they will ask Reyes to move to 2nd Base. Not move him out of the organization.
So now they have Piazza catching, Phillips at 1st, Reyes at 2nd, Matsui at SS, and Wiggington at 3rd. Now what they need to do is get a couple of decent pitchers and one good OF'er

I hope we can get Millwood with his close ties with Glavine and Mike Cameron. Furthermore, can we just release Cedeno already?

Whew! Thank God for that false report. I felt like I was witnessing a "Two for Juan" deal all over again.

That is by far one of two of the worst trades the Mets ever made. A day that will live in infamy in my professional opinion. Another bad trade that year (1989) was when they traded those five young pitchers for Frank Viola. An absolute travesty of a trade...Only the trades of Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver rank up their in travesties.
Although there have been some good trades made by the organization in the last ten years. Robert Person for John Olerud, and Mike Piazza for Preston Wilson. So lets hope the organization is on its way to reforming this beleagured ballclub.
