Final Fantasy 7 was not that great to be honest. I started playing it and never finished it.

I'd have to say Chrono Trigger. Another Squaresoft game.

I don't know if anybody remembers this one, but it was an old computer game called (I think) Dungeon Master. Obviously, you crawled around a dungeon fighting stuff and there were these piles of rock that was really a monster and it would open to attack you and that was the only time you could hurt them. It was great. The game is at least from 1987.
Also, me and the fellow nerds in the nerdery preferred Cool Ranch Doritos to Cheetos.

Ultima:Exodus was the other one for the NES.

Wasn't much of an RPG, I just had fun killing the townspeople, and at one point I got powerful enough to kill the guards that would always have killed me in the past :P

It was more fun to run away from the guards than it was to kill 'em anyway. :)

I'll have you know, sonny, that I'm 27 years old, and I used to walk 15 miles to and from school barefoot in a blizzard, and I liked it!

Anyway, Dragon Warriors I-IV and FF 2(IV) and 3(VI) are my favorites of all time.

With a name like Locke, I'd have expected Locke to pick FF 3 (US).

That was ok. Too many characters. FF 2(US) had just the right number. And I loved the whole idea of Cecil starting out as a dark knight, and then having to take care of Rydia, etc etc, and then there was the whole "I am your father" Star Wars-y thing. What a great story that game had. It was relatively simple, interesting... much better than the crap the they call a story in FF X.

You couldn't be more wrong. The Impresario is accessed/unlocked during the fight with Ultros in the "Opera House". Also, you need to find the diamond baton which is hidden in the town of "ZoZo". Expect a fierce and highly difficult battle trying to get that baton. You will have to fight the Impresario as well because he will think you stole his prized baton from the "Opera House". You cannot beat him but a while into the fight and IF you are still alive "Cobra" arrives and convinces the Impresario of the groups honest intent. This is the point the Impresario joins the group.

You are a disgusting liar. I'm not sure what agenda you may have with me but you certainly are an absolute creep for making up such a story.

The truth:

1.) I am and always have been PRO-war as you can clearly see in my history of posts. This fact alone shows you are a liar.
2.) I did not and have never sent any kind of war media or material to ANYONE, EVER! For a brief time I posted in the "Politics" forum and that is it.
3.) I am Icelandic and a Roman Catholic not Jewish.

FARK!!!!!! Now this is what I loved about menu RPG's, but than again, the idea that if you did somethng, you could actually make something different happen was the only thing keeping some of those games going. how many people out there thought unlockinb Magus in Chrono Trigger was a FARK the first time you heard it?

Like I said in another thread, once I started playing games like Age of Empires and Everquest, Menu Driven RPG's lost all appeal to me. With that said:

Favorite Console RPG: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, baby! Convince me that that's not an RPG

And V:TM was a great game. I had a GM that had a very political mind that made the game great.

Final Fantasies 1-9 (Japanese numbering) are all available for the Playstation in Final Fantasy Anthology (4 and 5), Final Fantasy Chronicles, (6 and Chrono Trigger), Final Fantasy Origins (1 and 2). 7, 8 and 9 are still available individually.

And V:TM was a great game. I had a GM that had a very political mind that made the game great.

nevermind that it's pretty easy to download emulators off the web.

emulating a game you don't own is illegal, same as mp3s. Copyright infringement. Of course, if you do own it, you could search for zsnes (http://www.zsnes.com/) or NESten (http://tnse.zophar.net/NESten.htm) or nesticle (http://www.zophar.net/NESticle/) or snes9x (http://www.snes9x.com/) or just go to a site like this one (http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/skyscraper/disk/162/downloads/roms1.html) that has FF 1-4 and the emulators in one place. But you wouldn't want to do that because it would be illegal.

But they added cutscenes and better music to the psx versions also.

But why would I do that when "the impresario" will "take care of me"?

Steels, I think you are full of shit about getting the Impresario in your group. Can you provide any more references/proof?

Think what you may but I'd sooner accommodate an ass wart before the likes of you.

But why would I do that when "the impresario" will "take care of me"?

Will you please stop this juvenile pettiness, it's a little embarrassing. If I were 10 years old I'd tell you to go sit on a chopstick but I'm not so just cut the shit.

I can't find any references to adding the Impresario to your group on any website anywhere. The closest I have found is a game genie code that will allow you to add him, so to speak. I am simply skeptical.

From IGN.com:

<B>Locations of characters in the World of Ruin </B>

Locke- Found in the Phoenix Cave (must have airship first!)
Sabin- can't miss him. In the first town when Celes reaches the shore, Sabin is holding up a damaged house.
Edgar- The so called "Gerad" is Edgar. Follow him to Figaro castle and go to the control room filled with those tentacles.
Setzer- Keep talking to him in Kohlingen.
Cyan- Go to Zozo, but the rust-rid and use it on the rusted door, climb Mt. Zozo and look for Cyan at the top.
Gau- Take three members to the Veldt and fight until Gau joins up with you.
Relm- go to Jidoor, make your way through Owzer's home and fight Chadarnook. After the fight she joins you.
Strago- After you have Relm, put her in your party and visit the tower of fanatics. Strago will join you if you have Relm.
Terra- on your second trip to Mobliz, fight Phunbaba, after the fight is over, Terra joins up with you.
Shadow- see "getting shadow in the world of ruin"
Mog- This one is easy. Find Mog in the Moogle Cavern.
Umaro & GoGo- see "secret characters"

now stop the petty bickering.

I've already addressed that issue with you. Now if your finished please respect the fact I want no association with you. Now say whatever you like but please make this be the end. Thank you.

After all this RPG talk I just downloaded "Chrono-Trigger" and I'm about to start a fresh game. My first girlfriend bought this for me in 1995 which is the last time I played it. Wow, 8 years!

Ironicaly, the best game story line in not in an rpg but rather in a little adventure shooting game know as Medal Gear Solid 2: Sons of liberty

Medal Gear Solid 2: Sons of liberty

While I agree that the greatest story in a video game is in a Metal Gear Solid game, it's not 2. The original Metal Gear Solid's story is MUCH better than Sons of Liberty's and is possibly the greatest in gaming history.

I'll put that up against Final Fantasy any day.

Are you kidding me? MG 1 better then MG sons of liberty? Ok I respect the opinions of others but I'am about to change your opinion. Lets compare the two games

Metal Gear Solid 1:

1.Lasted about 5 hours
the first time you played
2.Had interesting characters
and a straight forward storyline
with a few twists

MG:Sons of Liberty :

1.Lasted about 7 hours first time you played
2.Had amazing characters along with one of the best characters ever created, The movie worthy Vamp
3.Highly improved graphics
4.Amazing story line with twists and thrills. In the end of it you will question reality

After I finished Sons of Liberty and they ended the game with that philosophical speach I questioned religion, reality, and our existance. It was like taking acid while looking at the stars, the ending of sons of liberty was the closest a story could ever come to perfection.

I'm not attempting to start a fight with you because I'm thrilled that you like Metal Gear Solid. So it's cool to just discuss it, alright?

Basically, the problem with MGS2 for me was Raiden. I may feel totally different about the game if I could have played the whole game as Snake. Both games are somewhat short, not that I care, but lets just forget that aspect.

Also, I found Sons of Liberty easier than MGS. I liked the boss fights more (how easy was Vamp?). I loved the 3 part ending fight with Liquid which probably inspired Halo's ending too. Once again, Solidus was probably the easiest boss in the game! The last boss shouldn't be that easy.

Sons of Liberty is still an excellent game, but most fans would agree that MGS is better. Who cares, what we agree on is that the story is better than Final Fantasy.

I kind of liked the Raiden factor, it was bitter sweet. You start playing as this albino feminine teenager and you wonder "what the hell!Where is snake!?" Then as the story unfolds you realize who snake is and after playing as Raiden you can realy appreciate how cool Snake realy is

metal gear solid 2 was by far inferior to metal gear solid. the story line was so original and awesome in the first one. while the second one was good it lagged a little at points and the last boss fight was so easy. that being said mgs2 definately has one thing going for it. it scared the shit out of me. i was playing it late at night and slightly buzzed when the entire "you've been playing too long" "turn off the consol now" deal started happening. i flipped the out and just went crazy until i realized it was normal to the game and not just unique to me. it was intense.

the best consol rpg is obviously chrono trigger the story and the characters were amazing. followed closely by ff6(with a name like locke i figured this would be your favorite.) and kefka was definately the most badass villan ever.

The biggest bad ass in any game is obviously Luca Blight in Suikoden 2. Let's see........... he made the last survivor of a village he just torched beg for her life by crawling around like a pig making animal sounds before he gutted her. And it only took every single character in the game, both good and bad, to finally kill him. Bad ass.

If we are going to talk about best villain Sephiroth kicks everyone's @ss. You can't touch him man. He looks young but has long grey hair, hitting him with knights of the round 3 times at level 3 does not even come close to killing him. Id like your little 2d seiken detsu guy take knights of the round even once.
