View Full Version : Rotten Words
"An absolute sense of individuality is my politics....Maybe a room full of people having very different ideas is chaotic, but it's wonderfully chaotic, highly entertaining, and very educational. That's how you learn things - not by everybody following the same doctrine."
- John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten)
Does this sum up this board or what?

wow, johnny rotten was actually able to articulate that?
and yeah, that seems to sum up this board.
<p align="center"><font face="arial">"no, don't be afraid (to protect everyone). love and courage are your friends. yes, yes, anpanman. how gentle you are! go, protect everyone's dreams."</font></p>

If a million monkeys were put
in a room with a million
typewriters, in a million
years they'd type Hamlet.
Or something like that!

I saw Johnny and PIL at the old Ritz many years ago.
THe show was great...Johnny had a huge bucket of souvenir PIL buttons and threw handfulls into the crowd, mocking them for the duration of the show. I stood in the back, laughing. He said we were all sheep, and I agreed with him. One of the best shows I ever attended.

The rest of the quote:
" I don't suppose my kind of world could really exist at all because there are so many sheep out there that need leaders. Let them bleat among the flock, that's not for me. I'd rather be the lone sheep out there fending off the wolves. It's much better. When you grow up in a working-class environment, you're supposed to stay inside and follow the rules and regulations of that little system. I won't have any of that. It's all wrong, equally bad."

GVAC - Awesome Quote!
That is why I am so drawn to this site. There are so many different ideas, personalities, and character quirks that are represented on a daily basis.
The fact that these threads are also not "chat rooms" is an even better forum. A member can read, digest , and then reply to the ideas that are posted (even though I am probably one of the most reactionary members) in a relexed well thought out manner.
Always keep you mind open, but also knowhere you stand. DON'T be LUKEWARM in LIFE! If an idea makes sense and is backed up to support you and makes you a better human as a result - then consider it. True most of the threads are simple mind ramblings, but there are serious questions that arise and are debated.

Heckler, if that PiL show you attended at the Ritz was back in '84, you and I have crossed paths at least once, my friend.
I'm glad the rest of you appreciate the quote, too. Mr. Lydon (Rotten) has always been fascinating to listen to. I got the quote out of his autobiography, entitled : Rotten - No Irish - No Blacks - No dogs. Even if you're not a Sex Pistols or punk rock fan (and shame on you if you aren't!), it's a great read.

Here's a quote i think sums up the board real nice. I read it in a bathroom stall:
You think you're safe, standing while you pee.
Thinking to yourself, No disease can ever reach me.
Just think of this fact
while you wash up.
The crabs in this stall,
well they can jump.
