View Full Version : Question about Temp Agencies
Would you or would you not dress up as in, khakies shirt and tie, or would you dress casual? I went into this place today dressed in a pair of nice jeans and a nice shirt and dress shoes. I know the type of jobs I want and I know they would give it to me. My stepmother (who just happens to have a little more wisdom than me) kind of scolded me for not wearing a "SUIT" Im thinking, why on earth would I dress in one, Im not interveiving for Charles Shwab, or any other company really, now if the temp agent tells me I have to interview to get this job, THEN only would I wear khakis , shirt and tie ect

Id wear dress pants, a dress shirt and tie and a blazer. Jeans are too casual, they wont take you serious, unless your looking for a shelf stocking job or something along manual labor type jobs. Get a navy blue pair of Levis Action Slacks, they fit like jeans, but they look dressy, a light blue dress shirt, and a grey/blue/red colored tie and a charcoal blazer.

I used to work for a temp agency as a recruiter. I've also taken temp assignments when I've been between jobs. I was always impressed when prospective temps would come in well-dressed. It made me feel they had a professional attitude and I could send them out to assignments with confidence. A good rule of thumb is to always dress one-step above where you'll be working. You cannot go wrong with slacks, shirt and tie. I never once turned away a candidate for being overdressed, though I certainly downgraded some for being underdressed.

Kenneth speaks the truth! It doesn't matter what kind of job it is....show up for the interview dressed like you want to take the interviewer's job!!

It's not censorship because people can't come here and post/say whatever they want in the first place.

Always put your best foot forward. Look professional whether it's an interview for Murder Burger or Charles Schwab.
You want to give them reasons to hire you, not reasons not to hire you. If you show up on time, well-researched about the company, and looking good, chances are you'll get the position.

You can almost never be too dressed for an interview. Once you are there for a few days adjust accordingly.

Right on, Ken.
And Ag, get some nice clothes that you are happy with and feel good in. I know it can be a drag to shop for them, but go quality and take a little pride.
Plus, chicks dig a well dressed man.

Regardless man, this person you met with is the one who sends you to meet people who will hire you. Not saying you were dressed like a bum, but if you knocked her socks off, shed be enthusiastic about recommending you. Know what I mean, jelly bean?

"because you never get a second chance...to make a first impression."
Commercial taglines aside, we don't realize how much people judge us the first time they meet us. Although you think it was informal, and may have been, whoever you talked to was sizing you up and figuring what kind of jobs to place you.

unless you plan to be flipping burgers at mickyd's, dress like a man. suit or tie and jacket. Look professional, be curteous and the results you get will be better than walking in in jeans and t-shirt.

Dress nice for the interview or meeting (actually, once I believe I was too over dressed), and once you start look around to see what the appropriate dress is, and maybe even ask the client what they expect. You might be able to get away with nice jeans and a sweater on Fridays, etc.

Get some nice clothes that you can ENJOY wearing.
I doubt you have anything as ugly as some of the clothes I wear on a construction jobsite-- think you can match my K-Mart metallic silver swimming trunks and Hawiain shirts?
Hey man, it's cool looking sharp.
And a quality suit should be comfortable, too.
(edit) Hell, since getting some fine threads and a different attitude about it, I LOOK for excuses to dress up a little.
It's cool to hang with some friends and some chicks drop by and you start off with an edge cuz you're dressed a little better than the other guys.
