I think that this was a great choice considering these men and women are over there giving up their lives to make sure that we live in a land of freedom...big props to TIME for making this great decision...don't you all agree
Dammit they're gonna take my wisdom away!!!!

I am pleasantly surprised being this is the same magazine that wanted Bin laden but took the safe route instead with Rudy Giuliani as man of the Year in 2001

Nope, sorry. That's the military Clinton passed on to Bush.
If by "it" you mean this endless morale-killing morass where our guys get thrown into a war where they are too thin to protect their supply lines, undermanned to the point of not being able to occupy what they seized and restore civil order, where they are repeatedly lied to about the length of their deployment, where they are attacked dozens of times daily with no end in sight, then yeah, give Bush credit for those things.

If by "it" you mean ...
As youre hero would say, "it depends on what your definition of 'is' is."
Anyway, great choice by Time. Although it's similar to Fezzie's prediction of a company (Ebay) being Man of the Year, I couldnt think of a more deserving group of people.
God bless America, our troops, and the whole RonFez.Net family.

i'm looking at the national wwII memorial calander put out by the american battle momuments commision are each month has time magazine style photos with posters from the era

it made me think of how much more respect the military used to get before vietnam. these were govt commisioned pieces, and i feel if the curent administration tried to do the same, it would be torn appart by libs as propaganda.

I'm sorry, but I see picking a group rather than an individual for the person of the year as a cop out.
don't get me wrong, I support our troops and both wars, my post history reflects that, but I don't like it.

Furie, you unAmerican pig!
No, I kid. But who else would've been person of the year? I say good job to pick the soldiers who never get enough credit for what they do.
They said you'd help me
But as it turns out it was all a lie
And they're off someplace far away laughing at me...

The US Soldier was a good choice, but I would have gone with the Iraqi people.

Christ.
When did people decide the most INFLUENTIAL and IMPORTANT person of the year had to be "good"? Had bin Laden been picked, it's not like they were supporting him or cheering him on. The man's actions and decisions effected the entire world forever and in ways that were unthinkable before 9/11. Rudy was just REACTING to those decisions.
Bullshit pandering cop-out to the clueless masses.

While I agree with your claim that bin Laden probably was deserving of the 2001 Person of the Year (even if his actions were abhorable), I think Giuliani's actions were noteworthy. I'm not saying he deserved to be Man of the Year, but he did more than just his job.

Obviously. The guy did what he had to do and then some, to the nth degree. But he wouldn't have had to do any of that in the first place if it hadn't had been for bin Laden. The TIME person of the year has typically been the most newsworthy (Or "news-causing") person of the year. How was bin Laden NOT that in 2001? Hell, I think Hitler got it twice. Can you imagine these pantywaists today dealing with that?
