I've never been a huge fan of his, but tonight i can't help but be one. his father died in a car accident yesterday after he suffered a heart attack while driving. his family told him to play the game tonight and he did so. i can't imagine how hard it must be to play with so much on his mind. but in the first half he is 15-17 for 300+ yards and 4 TD passes. The best part though is the smile on his face and the support you see from his team. he is doing what he loves and i'm sure he dedicated his game tonight to his dad.

Yeah I heard that on the radio and was like, Wow. It definately sounded like the 'My dad woulda wanted this, and he'd be like, go play!' vibe as opposed to the, umm...
Ok I don't know how to describe this, but it happens often enough; a sports figures family suffers a death, or tragedy, and the figure plays. I either get a vibe saying either;
a) Wow this is amazing; it's obvious that THis is where he belongs, In The Game, and by all accounts his Father would be Livid if he missed a game. And you're like 'wow, not only is this person an amazing athlete, but they know Best, and This is where they belong, In The Game.'
OR
b) Oh Man! How can you be playing at a time like this? This is so obviously self-serving and for the press. Go home and be with your family, you insensitive idiot!
Ya know? I can't explain it. Someone help.
But Brett seems like the first.

I tell ya what - if his father had just died after a long illness, then yes, I can see him playing the next night. But to be honest with you, the way his father was killed last night, I don't see anything "courageous" about this at all.
When your father dies suddenly like that, in a horrific accident, a normal person is devastated and doesn't feel like playing football or doing much of anything - a normal person shuts down, not because he or she is weak, but because that is how a normal person reacts.
So basically what I'm saying is that Brett Favre is not strong or courageous - he's just doing what he wants to be doing, with the knowledge that he can get away with it because sports fans will say "wow, what a guy!" But I don't think this makes him a big person at all.

He's the man tonight. His team is playing balls out for him too. I think one reason he's playing is that it's a "must win" game. If it was earlier in the season, he'd probably miss a game to be with his family.

i think he has every right to go out there and do something he loves...despite the circumstances. maybe it helps him forget about things for a few hours as he does something he loves to do. i don't think he's doing because he knows he has the sports fans fooled and the "wow, what a guy" support.

I think What Bret Is doing is what an athlete should do. His team is fighting for a playoff spot and needs him. so Bret being Bret he shows how unselfish he is by playing. I know this sounds cliche but. His father was a H. S. Football Coach in Mississippi for 30 years. IM sure he would want Bret to play and ply his best. Bret is a Tough SOB just like his dad. bret was telling a story how his dad fell off the roof split open his head and just got up and told him what are u looking at get back in the house boy. so yea Bret did the right thing

Of course he should be out there tonight. If this game gets his mind off his pain for one minute, it was worth it. Grieving is something you can not avoid, but if he can forget for just one moment, say, while working a two minute drill, bully for him.
And what better way to praise his father, who was his high school coach, then kicking major ass the way he did in the first half.
Rest in peace cajun man.

This game was done in the first quarter! Favre's emotions helped the team come out strong and he showed tonight why he's a first ballot Hall of Famer.

towards the end i thought the Raiders were in a no-win situation from the beginning. were they really gonna go out and have that 'kill the quarterback" attitude. It put them on their heels and it pissed me off when GreenBay threw a bomb late in the game while being up 35-7.

Obviously, Favre was a great player in a time of tremendous stress last night. However, did ABC not completely drop the ball in the post-game interview? Why couldn't they have just gotten those statements from his publicist? Barbara Walters could have gotten him to cry...

favre is arguably the best quarterback of his generation. and this only helps his reputation.
but did he have to single handedly kick me out of my fantasy playoffs? i was up 30 points before monday night.

I never really was a fan of his either until Something About Mary.
That article is so weak. Big deal his family hashad those problems, is that gonna make Philly feel any better when he sends them home with another playoff exit ?
I'm sure if we start digging around in the Eagle's family tree we'll find a few things as well.
Any truth to the story that McNabb once spent a " wonderful " weekend at the Neverland Ranch ?
I have balls !!!
and isnt he like 38??
starting to get up in the years Manning is the next Farve...

Nah I dont think Manning is as tough as Favre.
I think manning is probably the better passer, but when he was younger Favre was a scrambling fool.
I'm sure the Beam and pain killers helped.
