Ok I dont know if this one's been done but the film discussion in the Willy Wonka thread got me thinking. Which is usually bad.

Anyway; I was thinking of the movie lists, and all the debates and stuff, so I was like, how can I explain why I think that movie is great while you think it sucks, and vice versa, so here's what might be a much more subjective Question, and I really am interested in these, as while I dont know a lot about movies, I sure love them.

Q1: What Movie makes you Most 'Happy'?

Meaning: Psyched; the credits roll, and you're like, "Hey! Life Is good! That really put things in perspective" or just plain silly movie that you like.
But I also mean 'Happy' as inspirational; and some very 'non-happy' movies can be quite inspirational.

Q2: What movie makes you most 'Sad'?

God I loath those quotes, but I use them coz I see two sub-categories here:

a] the movie that makes you cry a lot
b] the movie that leaves you the most depressed, the one where you leave thinking "Wow, Like sucks, that really put things inperspective."

--------------------------------

Anyway for me, and I could mention a dozen, but not cool; i dont wanna skew anyone

Happy: Rocky 1; for the inspiration level after.

Sad:

a] crying sad: Terms of Endearment; kids with Winger scene. Forget it...
b] depressing sad: The Elephant Man

when i need to feel happy or uplifted by a movie, i watch airheads or some other funny movie that isnt so intelligent. just makes me feel better i dont know

as far as sad goes, ill have to go with the first movie that ever made me cry.
Boyz in da Hood. something about when Ricky gets shot and his chick and mom start flippin out right as he got a scholarship to play college ball always made me feel so bad

It may sound gay, but Titanic and Castaway both had me bawling my eyes out

cast away is one thing, but damn, titanic.

i never understood cryin to that movie. maybe because of the fact that it was no suprise the ship sinks, maybe because i personally feel that the titanic and all the people who were on it were slighted by that half assed love story.

While it's exactly a "happy" movie, I always find myself getting a little giddy during Pulp Fiction. From the moment Bruce Willis goes back to his apartment to retrieve the watch to the finale in the diner, I swear that's the funniest stretch in any film.

I also like Rushmore and Duck Soup to bolster a good mood.

For sad favorites, the most messed up I've ever been was in a Polish movie called Korczak, about a doctor who protects jewish children in the Warsaw ghetto. It makes Schindler's List look like the Farrelly Bros. The final scene tore me up.

There's a movie out right now called In America, that also forced me to really keep my shit together.

It's odd what can push your emotional buttons.

Who here didn't get a little choked up during that scene in Toy Story 2? Come on, you know the one.

I'm sure that I'll come up with 10 better ones right after I hit enter, but these 2 were the first to come to mind
1 - happy - Scrooged
2 - sad - Allways

edit - That Mr Magoo Christmas Carol always got to me as a kid, and as an adult The Crow was kind of sad in a different way.

Happy= Shawshank Redemtion
Sad = Barfly

Interesting; i might actually reverse those two. I thought as bad off as the people were in barfly, they seemed happy enough; especially when a fight was brewing. And the old man suicide in Shawshank just got me SO bummed; I know it's ultimately a story of hope and, um, redemption, but still...

Happy- most anything with Bill Murray
Sad- The Fox and the Hound. i haven't seen it in many years, but i remember full well how damn sad that movie is.
