I'm hearing the sirens. Around here the tradition is for Santa to sit atop the newest volunteer fire engine, spotlit and waving to the kids who will come out to meet him. I'm 36, almost, and I am gonna go wave to Santa when he comes. I have no lights up - someone might mistake me for an atheist any day, the truth is I am lazy.
When I was a kid the sirens didn't mean anything bad, they were attention getters. It worked. I've driven my Jeep up onto curbs in July and median strips in August when there were sirens behind me that needed to get through.
Lots of our folks have bad memories of sirens. I think they're pretty cool, I have a Federal Model G hand cranked siren and I'd like to own a Q2B. That's a weird thing to say and if you wonder I invite you to email me. Anyway...
If there are sirens in your neighborhood tonight, they're prolly Santa. Go out and wave.
