I have a rash that looks like a pearl necklace

But, it's not from a pearl neckace. It's either from the beautiful long Gap scarf I bought or eating shell fish at the Chinese restaurant. I've always eaten shellfish, so that would confuse me if it is from that. I've had this scarf for about a week, and it makes me wonder why now a rash would appear all of a sudden. It's red and splotchy and goes across my neck and chest. It is as itchy as a motherf*cker. My dad gave me some cream to put on it (EW I DON'T EVEN WANT TO HEAR GROSS COMMENTS). I took a Claritin too. This is my second rash filled day. If it persists I will have to go to the doctor or walk in clinic tomorrow because it's very uncomfortable.

not sure if it was 'sudden' but my younger brother is allergic to shellfish. he hasn't touched shellfish in a long time so i don't remember the exact symptoms except for 'red eyes' and puffiness around his eyes...

Was the scarf brand new or recently washed in a new detergent? Sounds like an allergic reaction. If its vrand new, it could be a reaction from the manufacturing process or from whatever detergent. Ask the doctor.

I use to work in a textile factory, and sometimes as part of the manufacturing process, they lubricate the machines that make fabric with an oil that could cause that type of a reaction, its probably that, and it wont happen after you wash it. Feel better!

Oh- the dermatologist gave me cream, and it went away. I washed the scarf and have not had a rash since then, although sometimes I do get itchy. Thanks for asking.

That happened to me. I never really was big on fish anyway, but I developed an allergy to iodine and was told to stay away from shellfish. I also developed an allergy to Penicillin after taking it my whole life with no problems.

I used to eat shellfish (Crabs, Lobsters, Crawfish, Shrimp) all the time when I was younger but who knew I was allergic to them. I thought getting hives and feeling of numbness was natural. Now I know better and keep away from that stuff.
