I've seen ads for this handheld game player/palm pilot device. It looks pretty cool, and I like the way the controls look...

http://store.tapwave.com/buyTapwave_assets/images/2447840_featured.jpg

It has what appears to be a pretty big screen display...

http://tapwave.com/product/images/spy_hunter_2_03.jpg

It has blue-tooth technology built into it for wireless gameplay with multiple players.

It plays mp3, videos, and pictures.
I think it even does messaging.

serious gaming.

Basically, it's a game console that fits in your pocket. True analog controller and a full complement of ergonomically placed triggers and action buttons let you stay in control of game play. Yamahar audio component, stereo speakers, and earbud-style headphones produce rich sound. Vibration effects complete the sensory experience. Premiere titles from the industry's leading publishers increase the fun. And automated, web-based high-score reporting enables you to participate in tournaments and community competition on select games.

It's not censorship because people can't come here and post/say whatever they want in the first place.

I'm waiting for the Zodiac Killer Console; in which you string a dozen of these together, play some Sims, But you get to kill the others, and if you lose, they actually kill you.

And Palm Pilot? I masturbated so much as a kid I thought Palm Pilot was an award a person got when they hit puberty.

The Zodiac is a PDA with gaming capabilities as opposed to a gaming unit with PDA capabilities. I have a PocketPC, I don't need a Zodiac.

I thought you meant the inflatable boat, popularized by Jacques Cousteau. They used to take them where the Calypso couldn't go, like Lake Titticaca....

N-Gage was October, I believe
Zodiac was a couple weeks ago at most
I see GBAs and GBA-SPs everywhere. Every kid has them. And Gameboys were big from teh moment they came out in 1988.

I want to know why it took so long for the gameboys to come out in color and a version that was more than 8 bit.

I had a Turbo Express when I was in 8th grade (1989); it was 16 bit color (everyone else had stupid black and white gameboys or the awful 8-bit sega gamegear which had terrible graphics, and I don't think I ever even SAW an atari lynx...), I had a tv tuner for it; it was awesome (excet that it took 6 batteries, but I had the AC adaptor for it). It was definitely better than even the 8-bit nintendo console. I still love to play blazing lazers and bonk's adventure on it; it works just fine (although at some point the port for the AC adaptor broke so it's now batteries only, and I seem to have lost the tv tuner)

They didn't come out with color gameboys (and still 8 bit at that) until my senior year in college!

I really don't understand it!

The main reason everyone had gameboys over all the others were more games and better battery consumption. 4 AAs that lasted a fuck of a lot longer than any of the active matrix color handhelds. There were rumors of color gameboys for years, but they owned the handheld market, so they just kept putting it off.

How often are you some place without an AC adaptor for long enough that the batteries run out? I think the only time I was ever even close to that was on the plane on trips to Europe, and even then I just bought some extra batteries along. Plus you could actually make it run on only two batteries if you had a couple of paperclips, which was good for times when I couldn't find 6 of them. Who cares about battery consumption, it was still a better handheld and way ahead of its time.

I never used my gameboy at home, always for long car trips and things like that, so battery consumption was an issue.

And I have a Neo Geo Pocket color. That thing blows the GBA out of the water. Capcom vs SNK is an amazing fighter.

And Sony is saying the PSP will see a worldwide release in Nov.

It was not just battery consumption and game selection. It was also size and price. The gameboy (With the exception of neo geo pocket) is the only portable system that is truly small enoughto be portable. The Turbo express and Lynxxx while vastly superior in quality (at the time) were too large for most people to carry around conveniently. Game gear too had its following and was starting to catch on with third party support but it was still too big and gameboy started to improve. Remember before the color there was the more compact gameboy with the bigger screen. Neo-geo never caught on because by than gameboy monopolized the market and trampled it with the gameboy advance and all its third party support.
Also, Turboexpress, which had the best monitor of any handheld, even today I believe came out at $300 because of the price of the screen and was cost prohibitive upon release. And don't forget the nomad but genesis titles were waning by than so its shelf life was short. The gameboy advance was so long in coming for two reasons. It took years to get down the technology to have long battery life along with color and a 32-bit chip. And it was only recently that the price of the chips necessary for the 32-bit GBA were cheap enough to sell the GBA to the masses.
