chinese grab bag

it's new to me. went to my uncle's house this year and did a the chinese grab bag. here's the rules:

1. there are a number of guest whereas there is an equal number of presents
2. a bag with numbers 1 through (how ever many guests). #1 picks first, 2 can get #1's gift or pick a fresh gift
3. goes on until the end, and gets more cut throat. even if you're #2, if someone takes your gift, you can take anyone elses gift (except the 1 taken from you)
4. i fought hard for a bottle of irish mist (with the help of my sister and dad)


anyone else heard of this lil game?

Ive heard of it too. Every year my family and all our friends do a grab bag, this just sounds way to complex for our group.

What is it about sticking the word "chinese" in front of a task or event that makes it different?

I remember as a kid when skiing, we'd play "Chinese Downhill", where we would ski down a slope whacking each other with the ski poles. I think that came from "Ski School" or one of those 80's ski movies.

Chinese Checkers - do they even play that in China?

Did it once at aparty years ago.
What made it "Chinese" was all of the items in the bag were covered in peanut oil.

I don't think Death Metal Moe would have approved.

I've been at parties where they played this, except it was called "Dirty Santa", or "White Elephant".
