New cars and cigarette lighters and ashtrays

Are car cigarette lighters and car ashtrays no longer standard issue for new vehicles? (It explains why people flick their ashes and cigarettes out the car window). I'm discussing this because the work cars I drive don't have them and the car I bought recently does not have them either.

I was discussing with a co-worker of mine if this was some type of subliminal message not to smoke by the government or a result of all the lawsuits against the cigarette companies and removing these from most new cars was an allowance made upon big tobacco.

Does anyone know? It seems car now-a-days are more equiped to handle electronic devices such as labtops, DVD/vhs/tv players etc.

For electronics, it's good for a few more years, but with cars coming out with Wall-type outlets...

Ashtrays? You'd think they'd still keep that one, since the non-puffer has always had an additional stash place.

yes, new cars have ashtrays, no not all have lighters, but you can usually get them free if you want.
the reason people use the window is, leaving cigarette butts in your ashtray makes your car always smell like cigarettes. if you throw them out the window when your done, it doesnt smell after like 2 minutes and you car doesnt always reek

i have a 99 Taurus and it came with a lighter and ashtray. i keep change in there. it's got a small ashtray in the back too. luxury at it's finest....
