View Full Version : Why is Howard Dean popular with young voters?
WRESTLINGFAN

As we head into 2004 and another presidential election, Dean is the Democratic Frontrunner.
But how is he popular with the young voters? I know Clinton was popular because he was much younger than Bush 41 and when he appeared on Arsenio Hall playing the sax wearing shades, the media dubbed him the "rock and roll president"
can someone shed some light on the whole Howard Dean popularity thing?

Because most young people are idiots.
They said you'd help me
But as it turns out it was all a lie
And they're off someplace far away laughing at me...

speaking as a young voter,
the main reason is that young people tend to be more liberal due to the fact that it is rebelion in a sense. they latched onto the fact that it's the "in" thing for liberals to do is to hate bush. thusly they have to vote democrat(bc for the bulk portion they are too naive to vote third party GO NADER!!!!!). Dean has been getting the most media coverage of all the democrats, and thusly the name that they remember. also the fact that he gets attacked by the democrats for having radical view might make the youngins think that to be "true" liberals they have to vote for dean.
that being said i think it has to do in large part to his cute little smile.

I was listening to Howard Stern one morning and he was talking about this. He was saying that young kids join Dean's campaign to pick up hot chicks and get sex.

i just want to thow out some real reasons to raise the level of discourse
environment: anti-drilling in anwr, pro-enforcing emission conrtols (not weakening them for the corporations)
social: pro-abortion, gay-rights, affirmative action, doesn't think ashcroft and scalia should be ruling on and enforcing laws
foreign policy: anti-unilateral, pre-emptive wars

Because young voters haven't yet become cynical and greedy. And Dean is an electrifying candidate - the rest of the realistic Democratic contenders are bland and typical.

Funkman, I always wanted to ask you- have you ever heard of that encyclopedia: Funk & Wagnall? That's the encyclopedia that I used to have and I always think of you as EncyclopediaMan because of it. I also think of Tall James as Tall Farr because of Jamie Farr. Then I make you two do battle in my head!

when i think of you East Side Dave i always wonder if somehwere out there, like in the north, if there is a West Side Dave and whether he also breaks little girls hearts by robbing them of their hits in the gap and to the outfield....
this Tall James you speak of, i'd have to say we rarely cross paths. and because of his tallness i don't think i would know him if he walked right by me but may be able to describe the bulge in his pants...

Which of his politics do you disagree with? His policies are really not very liberal.

What about his policy in Vermont of free abortions on demand for trans-gendered homosexual couples? And the kids don't even have to belong to them for them to be killed!
That is beyond the pale.

Tall James,
Aren't you living in the People's Republic of Massachusetts these days? Step carefully my friend, or the local band of Kennedy's will come a callin' with their torches and pitchforks and you'll be forced to flee and seek asylum in New Hampshire and bunk up with PJ O'Rourke. ;)

Do you have a source on this? In any case, I don't understand your point - how can there be an abortion if the kids don't belong to them? The fetus has to be inside one of them. What does it matter if they are transgender? And are you saying abortions should be expensive?

On Dean:
"People are left wondering: What will he say next?" "We need more than simple answers and the latest slip of the tongue,"
"At first, Dean said he would open his records when George W. Bush did. Turns out Bush's records were open." "Then he said he would let a judge decide, but now he's hiding behind an attorney general he himself appointed. It really makes you wonder what he's hiding."
"Those who doubted whether Iraq or the world would be better off without Saddam Hussein, and those who believe we are not safer with his capture, don't have the judgment to be president or the credibility to be elected president." "How can anybody say we're safer with Saddam Hussein in the world?"
"He seems to believe if you are just against everything, that is enough." "Dr. Dean has become Dr. No."

While Dean was governor of vermont he made corrections officers take sensitivity training and even removed weapons from most of them, if a prisoner escaped guards would be armed only with pepper spray and stun guns. Also the prisoners were allowed to call the warden and high ranking corrections officers by their first name
