I saw Nine Inch Nails open for
Peter Murphy.

And I *think* I saw the
now-defunct Jane's Addiction
open for Iggy Pop. I say
"think" because the late 80s-
early 90s are a real haze to
me IF you know what I mean.
(wink wink nudge nudge. Is she
a goer?)I might be combining
two diferent shows into one
mass SUPER SHOW! Wouldn't THAT
be awesome?!

So, do you think Michael
Hutchence offed himself
accidentally (that is, gaining
pleasure from
self-administered asphixiation
while touching his naughty
bits) or did he choose to be
found in a quite naked and
compromising position?

I realize this doesn't qualify, but since most of the music I care about is ancient history here are 2 great opening acts.
I wasn't born ( so I didn't see it), but I think Jimi Hendrix would have been considered the opening act for the Monkees. I was too young to see it, but the Clash opened for the Who a while back.

These are going way back, I know I've forgotten some. Uriah Heep with Jethro Tull, Robin Trower with Jethro Tull, Donovan/Yes,David Johansen for Blondie, Ted Nugent for Aerosmith, Ted Nugent was also suppose to open for Lynard Skynard but they were killed a week before the show and just Nugent played (does that count)? Red Ryder for The Kinks. I know there's more but those damn drugs ruined my brain cells. U F O with Cheap Trick, and Van Halen for Black Sabbath.

I know most of the world hates them now, but I saw Creed open @ MSG for Van Halen in 1998.

I had no idea who they were at the time, but my girlfriend wanted to go inside in time for the opener. I argued b/c the last time she made me rush in for the opener @ a VH show it was Collective Soul & they were awful. But the show was great...they played in less than 50 square feet in front of the stage, basically standing on top of their equipment, but their set was top notch. And in a little more than a year Creed was one of the biggest band in the country & headlining their own tour.

I also saw Vince Neil open for Van Halen at Jones Beach. The VH show was sold out to overflow, but when Vince went on, there was probably less than 200 people in the whole place. I almost felt bad for him, but he put on a pretty good set. It was just uncomfortable listening to him try to get a crowd response...but only seeing tumbleweed go by & hearing crickets chirp instead.
