Which band/singer has the best lyrics. This is all opinion so no fighting.
As for me, I would have to say Alkaline Trio has some of the best lyrics I have ever heard.
They said you'd help me
But as it turns out it was all a lie
And they're off someplace far away laughing at me...

The word "Fire", rhymed with the word "Desire", have pretty much summed up the last few decades.

Couple in the next room, bound to win a prize.
They've been going at it all night long.
I'm trying to get some sleep, but these motel wall are cheap,
Lincoln Duncan is my name and here's my song, here's my song.
My father was a fisherman, my mama was a fisherman's friend.
And I was born in the boredom of the chowder.
So when I reached my prime, I left my home in the Maritimes,
And headed down the turnpike to New England, sweet New England.
Holes in my confidence, holes in the knees of my jeans.
I was left without a penny in my pocket.
Oh we I was bout as destituted as a kid could be.
And I wish'd I'd wore a ring so I could hock it, I'd like to hock it.
Seen a young girl in a parking lot, preaching to a crowd.
Singing sacred songs and reading from the Bible.
Well I told her I was lost and she told about the Pentecost.
Seen that girl as the road to my survival.
Just later on the very same night, I crept to her tent with a flashlight.
And my long years of innocence ended.
She took me to the woods saying "Here comes something and it feels so good".
And just like a dog I was befriended, I was befriended.
Oh what a night, oh what a garden of delight.
Even now that sweet memory lingers.
I was playing my guitar and lying underneath the stars.
Just thanking the Lord for my fingers, for my fingers.

Yes, because there can be only one.
Feh.

Wow. Justin the Weenie.
This is too broad as to who has the best lyrics. These things always turn into pissing contests.
But for the sake of argument I was always mesmerised by Pretty Boy Floyd's powerful lyrics. Especially "I Wanna Be With You". Such RAW unbridalled emotion.
The Bulletboys really had me on a string with "Hard As A Rock".
Compelling.
Above all....
...the most brutally honest and heartfelt had to be Warrant with their extermely powerful and wrenching portrayal of "Where the Down Boys go".
Intense.

I love the Specials lyrics, so deep:
I go out on Friday night and I come home on Saturday morning
I go out on Friday night and I come home on Saturday morning
and
Nite Klub, is this the in place to be?
Nite Klub, what am I doing here?
Nite Klub, watching the girls go by
Spending money on...
Hey, hey, I don't work
Cos I don't have to
I don't have to work
There's no work to do

always enjoyed U2's lyrics
"Running To Stand Still"
And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was
Lying still
Said I gotta do something
About where we're going
Step on a steam train
Step out of the driving rain, maybe
Run from the darkness in the night
Singing ha, ah la la la de day
Ah la la la de day
Ah la la de day
Sweet the sin
Bitter taste in my mouth
I see seven towers
But I only see one way out
You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice
You know I took the poison
From the poison stream
Then I floated out of here
Singing...ha la la la de day
Ha la la la de day
Ha la la de day
She runs through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway she brings me
White gold and pearls stolen from the sea
She is raging
She is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes
She will...
Suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand...
Still.

Fish-heads.

All The Girls in The World Beware (1974)
I got tarter on my teeth, but I don't care.
I got dark brown stains, in my underwear.
I'm a crumb and a bum, I'm a slouch and a louse.
A crazy man who don't give a damn about his self.
Chorus
All the girls in the world beware!!!
All the girls in the world beware!!!
All the girls in the world beware!!!
All the girls in the world beware!!!
I'm the crazy man.
I'm the crazy man.
I'm the craa ... zzy man.
I ain't naive, I got a line or two.
I'd even make one up, just to lay on you.
I'm rude and I'm shrewd, I'm fat and I'm bad.
I'm a man who don't give a damn 'bout who he is.
Chorus
Chorus
Chorus
I'm the crazy man.
I'm the crazy man.
I'm the craa ... zzy man.
All the girls beware.
All the girls beware.
All the girls beware.
All the girls beware.
All the girls beware.
All the girls beware.
All the girls beware!!!
I'm the crazy man.

That's my second favorite song, Funk.
Behind, this one:
"Meet the Wilsons'!
Marge, Gene, Doris, Guy, and Bud!
Meet the Carneys'!
Victor, Phillis, Donnie, Mitch, and Edna!
Now it's time
to play.........
....the Family Feud!"
(and then there's an instrumental and it ends
Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba
Ba-Ba-Ba........Bomp!)

I've always liked these guys lyrics:
Grandstanding from the Cheap Seats
by Good Riddance
born with these opinions we've chosen to ignore
things once worth fighting for mean nothing anymore
the best laid plans the complicated schemes
marginalization of a people's hopes and dreams
the common man never had a choice
too pushed aside to use our voice
does our pride still run so deep
that we don't mind being put to sleep
the opulent look down with madisonian disdain
at the titilated insects too complacent to complain
with pavlovian precision doing just what we are told
too entertained to realize the extent of their control
the common man never had a choice
too pushed aside to use our voice
does our pride still run so deep
that we don't mind being put to sleep
ignore your dubious pretense of freedom
in a different way oppression masked by false consent
over one hundred fifty million without a thing to say
without a thing to say.
