For the longest time, i had an aversion to this movie. All i knew was that it was some kind of hippy thing, but i watched it on DVD today, and its really pretty good. I even ended up watching it with the Arlo Guthrie commentary, and it actually made the movie a bunch better. Shit, the movie even made me want to go and pick up some Arlo Guthrie music. And i had/ have a huge hatred towards hippie/ folk music crap, but something about that movie swayed me a bit.
Shit, the draft physical part is funny as all hell. And the arrest in the movie is great.n
i've got Rembrandt as my right hand and Solo as my pilot.
Greedo died by the hand of Solo.

You should try watching it with the commentary, it really adds a bunch to it, plus some of it is quite funny.

Don't most classic rock stations play that every Thanksgiving? WPLR in CT used to do that.

Yeah, we did it as part of our "Pay For Play" Thanksgiving special. Listeners had to pledge $1000 minimum for the long songs like that.

i've actually never seen alice's restaurant, but it just made me think of the best folk movie that i've seen (and arlo guthrie was in it).
it's the ballad of ramblin' jack.

I seen that movie, too! About Jack Elliot- a major inspiration of Bob Dylan's. But you may be thinking of Woody Guthrie, Ari. He was the guy who came before Dylan and Elliot and was, and still is, a major influence on anyone slightly folky. Billy Bragg and Wilco even combined to do two albums covering his songs. But then again, shit, homey, maybe I'm wrong! I get things I see on TV and real life confused sometimes and- whoops- I'm late for a suprise birthday party for Kevin Arnold (I got him a Joe Namath jersey!), gotta go!

Com-PLETE-ly forgotten that movie ever existed until you just brought it up. In fact, for a minute I was thinking about "Alice doesn't live here Anymore" '74.
Damn, that was indeed a 'hippy' movie if there ever was one.

Not to be confused with "Love Don't Live Here Anymore", by Rose Royce in the movie Car Wash.

But you may be thinking of Woody Guthrie, Ari.it's been a while since i saw the movie, but i believe they actually interviewed arlo guthrie, woody's son. there was footage of woody, however.
and i think i should get a prize for inspiring what may well be the most coherent east side dave post ever.
