A car trying to outrun a police officer ran off a road and crashed early yesterday, killing all seven young people inside

Have you ever been with 6 other people in a car like this? That's fucking scary-retarded. I can't even imagine a high speed crash like this where you're sitting smooshed even BEFORE you get horribly killed. Awful and stupid.

If the law says the officer cannot participate in a high-speed chase then i can see a lawsuit being warranted. but if the officer is 'allowed to chase' then the 'victims of themselves' should not have a case...

hopefully that makes sense...

First of all...if the officer was ordered to halt persuit and kept going then maybe a lawsuit would be in order. But for those parents who decide to get a lawyer despite the fact the police were totally justified in the chase, they are trying to save face for the fact their kids were stupid.
It's almost like they were in a clown car they were piled in so tightly.
This is what you call thinning the herd.
I wonder if any of the parents are going to sue each other. I can see it now.."If it wasn't for YOUR son MY daughter would still be alive" ect. ect.

Very sad. How many times did we pile into cars in high school? I just can't believe that none of them had a liscense. That's probably why they tried to outrun the cop. I wonder whose car it was that these kids "borrowed."

Most of the lawsuits that are filed after a crash following a police chase are related to non-participants. Meaning that if the cop was chasing them and either his car or their car smashed into somebody else their would be liability. Since the only car affected was the " violating " vehicle I really doubt their can or will be any reprecussions, especially if the copy didnt even chase them. Most departments have a policy where the pursuing officer has to weight the risks. If a pursuit is warranted because the driver may be a threat to others ( drunk or just erratic ) then the police should pursue, but if it is just somebody trying to flee form a speeding ticket, then necessity to pursue is not as important.

I have balls !!!

"They were just out joyriding and a cop pulls them over, and here we have seven deaths. I lost my only son,"

i hope this is a joke. if a car is joyriding and doing it erratically, it should be pulled over, if they run and can deal with it, its their fault. ITS YOUR SONS FAULT, annthe people that loaned them the car

All of the victims -- five males and two females -- were believed to be in their teens, Highway Patrol Sergeant Terry Robinson said..

...Howard Hurtt said his 15-year-old son, Dominic, was among the victims. He said the youngsters -- none of whom had driver's licenses...

Why don't Terry and Howard get together and share information. Sounds like the police don't know who was in the car yet Terry does.

That sure as hell is what I woulda been doing, and have done; maybe some of you have been in this kinda thing, yeah? Me too, at least once where I was at the point where I just closed my eyes and started laughing, coz this fuck just wasn't stopping. For some reason; he actually never hit a tree and slowed down, hell we werent even being chased, he was just pissed off...

This sounds horrible; but from seeing this shit too many times; the kids who are dead are out of pain and wherever they are. That nothing can change. Their suffering, unless there's some weird karmic cosmic reincarnation guilt rollover, was, with hope, was minimal.

The real carnage, for me, is the shattered families, the loss of hope, sure a marraige or three will be ruined, and all the shit that happens now. Friends fucked up forever. My buds Mike and Sean, my Class of '81, dead T-Day '84; in the blink of an eye. They fucked up.

The dad would know the ages of the kids being it was his son's friends but if Sgt. was interviewed right after the accident and the kids were not carring id how can he know how old they were... the quotes are most likely from different time frames..

It is a tragedy, but hopefully some kids will learn a lesson don't run from the cops. Big deal what is the worst they are going to do give you a ticket. Maybe suspend you from getting a license until you are 18. It sure beats the consequences, imagine if in most of these accidents the driver lives and he killed 6 of his friends for a stupid act. The guilt would be horrible.

It is sad but hopefully someone will get a positive message out of this story.

Also note the police only released the name of a victim they knew was 18. They're withholding the minors' names.

Dyrita Ellis, 31, who came to the scene with her teenage daughter and a cousin, said the five boys who died were a tight-knit group.
Just kinda shows what type of environment the teens were in.

Also, had the driver plowed into anather car or some pedestrians, the parents would not be suing the cops. They would be being sued for be shitty authority figures. Sure, it sucks to lose a child, but there has to be a point where the parets are held accountable for the actions of their children. It is not the cop's fault.

Yeah, but the problem is after 3 - 4 years, the story will sort of fade away as they always seem to do, and another generation of kids will come up and do the same, stupid thing.

I say if we are going to have random manditory ages for stuff, make 18 the age for everything: driving, voting, going to war, drinking, sex, etc. , the kids can get permits at 16 to use for going to work or school - Although it wouldn't have solved anything here, maybe something tougher that puts parents at fault.

Sounding like a grandpa, I know...
