View Full Version : AOL IM has taken over my Outlook Express...why?

And I don't even use Outlook Express...I hit the button for it by accident and when it loaded up it started IM and everything froze up. When I was able to close everything, I tried it again to see if it wasn't a fluke...sure enough, both programs started at the same time and everything froze up.
What gives?

What gives is that AOL should be classified as a computer virus. All measures should be taken to keep it as far away from your computer as necessary

I'd say the Democrats were to blame. But then again, I would.

There's a setting in Outlook that you can change to automatically start AIM if you so desire. Why it froze, I dunno. Maybe it's looking for an old version of AIM or somesuch.

Thanks, Sparkles.
So how do I turn the option off again?

Still have this problem.
I checked the settings for both programs and can't recognize anything in either that could turn this off.
HELP!!!

I'm not sure if this is what ADF suggested, but I thought I'd post it anyway.
Outlook wants to open the default messenging program which is most likely AIM.
Open AIM, but don't sign on. Go to Setup and un-check the box that says "Make AIM my default instant message program." Its on the bottom.
Hope that helps.

Crap like that (settings just taking over) is why I have returned to Pegasus (http://www.pmail.com/) as my mail reader and why I use Trillian Basic (http://www.trillian.cc/) as my chat software. Both are free, and Trillian allows you to connect to all of your favorite chat services --AIM, MSN, ICQ, etc--all at the same time, using only the one program.
