my dog is a freakin giant . every day i have to take the crazy thing for a walk even though he's not mine , actually , he's the one that's dragging me around the neighborhood . he's been fixed so that can't be why he's so nuts . the other day i was walking him and he saw another dog , so he decided to break into a run and drag me across the street. i almost got hit by a car . there's no way i can control him he has nearly 20 pounds on me. is there anythiing that would calm him down?

EDIT: That article The Oracle gave you is pure ABA, what I use to work children with Autism. It's all in the field of behaviorism.

You may not be able to calm him, but to at least control him you should try a Gentle Leader:
<img src="http://www.madcitydog.com/Store/Store%20Gentle%20Leader.jpg" width=400>

They work really well; I use one on my dog. You might get some people asking if it's a muzzle (it's not), but they're getting to the point that they're popular enough that you don't get that that often any more. You should be able to find them at just about any pet store.

My dog knows when I put it on her that it's time to behave properly. It really does calm her down a lot.

<a href="http://www.gentleleader.com/pages.cfm?ID=29">Here</a> is the website for the Gentle Leader.

I train my dog the conventional way. What you do is, see, you take an empty soda can and fill it with pennies and when the dog does something bad, see, you shake the can violently at him and say "NO!" (I put that in quotes because you should say it just like I said it). This way you don't have to strike your dog and if that doesn't work you could always burn him.
