Hey all,

I've seen Elliot Smith's name pop up here a couple of times, and I found this article today while browsing the web. Apparently police in California are doing further investigation into Elliot's death.

Further Investigation (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=765&e=3&u=/nm/20031231/people_nm/people_smith_dc)

first off, i just want to say that every time i so much as see his name, i get a little teary. still.

i don't know what i think about this. i can't imagine anyone wanting to kill him. unless it was someone helping him out, in which case i'd still consider it a suicide. he doesn't strike me as the type to have people after him.

on the other hand, i always thought it sounded odd that he died the way he did. stab wound to the chest? the article linked to in this thread says two stab wounds... that makes a little more sense. what i had read earlier said a single stab wound, and that seemed very convenient. i mean, stabbing yourself once and hitting a spot that kills you? i'm sure it's not such a hard thing to do, but i'd think there was a decent chance of missing and surviving, too. so i wondered if maybe someone else was involved.

i don't know what to think. and i guess it doesn't really matter (except for to his family and such). no matter what happened to him, we've all lost a great talent and a genuinely nice guy. this is why i tear up.

No matter how he died its still a huge loss. I loved Elliot Smiths music. This one was really sad.

RIP Elliot. I was never a huge Cowboys fan, but you were a great football player. And I enjoyed those credit card commercials.

you shouldn't joke about stuff like this. elliott smith was and continues to be important to some of us. i met him, and he was very kind to me. and he was an enormous talent. with all due respect, this has no place here.

i've always thought that this picture was about as perfect as you could get:

As Lou Costello might say:

But seriously, I'm sorry, I can see that his life touched you, so I don't want to make light of his tragic death.

There is the question: Multiple stab wounds and no drugs found in hs system. If youwere gonna kill yourself, would you go with multiple stab wounds? Is that even plausible?

i'd say that it's plausible. it seems like a pretty brutal way to go out. you'd really have to hate yourself to do it. but i think it's still plausible. if it were ten stab wounds or something, i'd find it less so. but two.. maybe.

I have to admit. The Emmit Smith referance made me chuckle.

I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, I wasn't there and if I was there I was asleep.

I think we all know he was killed by Courtney Love.

It's pretty tragic. If becomes one of those people who get huge after their death like Jeff Buckley or Bradley Nowell it would be a real shame.
