My Annual Ron and Fez status report!
What a year!
Before I get to all the bitching I'll start off with all the great stuff they have done plus a quick mention that this is just one opinion that may not match yours, so flames off please : )
They pulled off the greatest feat of all of course which was a massive transition. They landed firmly on their feet and showed as always that they are true professionals.
It was amazing to hear them slowly and surely catch their balance, get traction, and keep on truck'n.
I applaud them for being SO good in their field!
I'm also happy to start hearing the comedy pyramids making a comeback.
Now on to some bitching =)
First off, their opening themes. They have got to change them both. They are ugly, and do little to match or compliment the show. I actually like their old theme better ("Everybody come see the greatest show").
This also carries over to the bumper music going out to commercials and coming into the show from commercials. It's also usually jarring and ugly music that doesn't match the show at all. Let's get something with dignity and soul going instead and keep it consistent.
Next up, the bitching about the producers and interns: I don't know if it's the years of listening to Howard Stern, or just getting older, but I really could care less about the lives, loves, and loafing of immature people doing their work poorly. It's been an old Howard Stern bit, and I find it a great drag on the whole R&F show.
They of course hit a good vein with Al Dukes and especially 5 letter man Billy Staples. But they have been milking the wrong cows now for way too long. I know it helps R&F greatly to kill time talking to and about the current group working with them....but it's time to hang up the phone on this stuff.
Speaking of time to hang up on things, the amount of sports talk has hit it's limit. I've had no trouble listening to Fez and his love of his team. But it seems that there has been a real ramp up of talking about sports in depth. Face the facts, there are plenty of sports shows and entire TV and radio channels devoted to sports talk. If I wanted that I'd go there. They took the great advice before of dropping most of the wrestling talk. They should do the same with sports. Talking about interesting and unique sporting events that happens is fine. But this player going there, this manager doing this, is a whole nuther level of sports better left to the audience of dedicated sports shows.
"Excuse me, excuse me I believe you have my stapler?"
Billy Staples.
I considered him the 3rd member of R&F.
To me he was the Curly of the R&F 3 Stooges. To have him walk in and have Moe (Ron) and Larry (Fez) lay into him nonstop was the greatest comedy gold I have ever heard on radio. He was the fuel of the show. Always there (or missing) when you needed him.
His departure from the show was the greatest single blow to me.
Billy must come back in some form. I don't care if it's just him calling in once in a while like Paul-O.
There's bad blood between Billy and the show? I say GOOD! Sounds like comedy gold to me =)
Bring back Billy PLEASE!!!!
Guests????
Is it that hard to get some guests on the show?
Give R&F a break and have some interesting people come in as guests sometimes. I can't imagine they like just talking to interns and producers each and every show.
I know the producers can't seem to get anyone on. I say they are looking at the wrong people. I really would prefer interesting people over famous people any day.
There must be tons of people that would love to get some air time to talk about their projects, products, or causes. (no musicians PLEASE)
Holy crap they're in DC. There are tons of people such as poets, book writers, goodwill ambassadors, people with causes, etc. People stream in from all over the world to get the attention of people in DC.
GET SOME GUESTS!!!!
That ends my Ron and Fez annual status report.
I love the show and hope they will consider some of these ideas for the next ye

honestly, who gives a fuck who he is, or how long or how much he posts....he knows what he's talking about. He or she is obviously a devout listener of the show and has an opinion and is allowed to express it. for all we care it could be his first post, but been listening for 4 years, how the fuck do we know, before we dis them. Be nice people....this is a friendly place and for an exchange of opinions and thoughts without getting attacked..or i thought it was

Accually, yes, he has listened throughout the year. But I'm pretty sure, by the reactions here, we don't agree with what he's saying. Most of the stuff he's saying is way out in left field, and although it seems like he listened, it doesn't seem like he has the true opinions of real Ron and Fez fans.

For my money, there's no better Cruise/Kidman vehicle than "Days of Thunder." That- yeah that might be the Best Movie In Human History.

"is Far And Away your favorite movie?"
I've never seen that movie.
FarAway represents that I am too far away from the show. The R&F radio waves can not reach my radio :(
"how can you have an annual report on R&F over the last year without discussing the fastest hour in radio"
I see that show as just something they have to do to get by. Just a show commenting on the current headlines like so many shows before them over the decades.
Also I think they already did 2 live shows a day for a while there at wnew. So it's not notable as a first for them. Near the end the whole station seemed to be R&F either live or repeats.
To me the fastest hour doesn't represent the show they've crafted over the years. The "open source" show with the audience access and participation. So it never entered my mind to comment on it. It's just a template show.

My favorite R&F bits of last year were the following.
I loved when Ron and Fez did the play on the Oprah car giveaway by giving away a Krispy Kreme donut to Beniccio and ultimately everyone in the studio, and then later giving everyone milk. It has to be one of my favorite bits they've done since they came to DC. I still say "YOU GET A DONUT, YOU GET A DONUT, EVERYBODY GETS A DONUT!!" whenever I see these year end reflection shows and they play the Oprah clip.
I also loved all the various Ray Bottoms bits, from shaving him with the helmet hair, or screwing him out of the X3, or the things they did with him and Skellington.
The Crazy Jen bits were all great, the egg eating contest, the clothes pin one, etc.
I also liked when they left Monster in the studio and he actually did a okay job of it.

I also loved all the various Ray Bottoms bits, from shaving him with the helmet hair, or screwing him out of the X3, or the things they did with him and Skellington.
The X3 stuff was huge - man that was funny. I also enjoyed the sheer GLEE Fez had whenever he called WB "Ray Bottoms." He was like a kid at Christmas everytime he said it, and the gift was WB's pouting face.
Fez got drunk 3 times on the air last year, and each one seemed to get better and better. I know people think that "bit" is "played," but theirs is the only job where getting drunk improves their work!
Dubs and his tats - Fez the Med Head - Elfish and his head shaving - Jen and her challenges and stand up "comedy" - Perry and his songs - Benicio and his fucking disappointments - Fez and "Fuzz" and the Catty moments - the fat woman stabbed with forks story - Bobo and Chapin's trainwreck of a duet - Monster and the stories about his kid - Preset Radio Albert ("GODSPEED!") - Mizzle and his schoolin' - the return of "Iris" - Mrs. Paul O gets mellow on her Meds - Fez doing his Joe Lieberman - Loutard is outed - Wonderboy and his laundry list of complaints on the "regulars" - Bill O'Reilly Rappin' - Dinner for Five never off the ground - and (of course) R&F back on in Tampa and now on in Baltimore
I loved the political talk. I know many people didn't, but it was only natural in the kind of election year we had. Watching the debates w/ R&F commentary, not to mention the election, was also fun, even if the outcome for some wasn't. At least Ron always gave the opposition a soap box to vent from too.
I also really liked that they made the rounds of their neighboring shows (The Hideout, Don and Mike and Out to Lunch), always being funny, but never trying to out-do the other hosts (although Iris on The Hideout, and drunken Fez on D&M did kind of steal those shows!). They only did three public show appearances during a show in '04, none of the that great, but the hockey game (off the air) and the open house were both a lot of fun and stand out as a "We should do that again" moments. They also (slowly) began to become part of the local community - Fez actually going to a Fairfax County Fair?!
And finally, aside from the continuity of having Mikey D., Wonderboy, Black Earl and Paul O on, it was great that Billy Staples, Al Dukes, Stalker Patti, Tuttle, Harry Elvis and others from the past either all came by or checked in.

Damn, forgot to add the drunken Fez shows. They definitely got funnier each time.
Between those and the show with hypnosis I found them to be so great and funny.

I found these shows very entertaining. There definitely some shows that I found myself turning off though it had more to do with the fact that I really would get burnt out on all the politics. Though that isn't a fault of the show, just politics in general.
I think that by changing the show to included serious talk in addition to everything else they are capable of that it really shows how diverse they can be and can adapt the show. That's definitely something they would want to show to Infinity or any other network should they be considered for another market,, time slot, or radio network.
In addition to that, the Paul O and Mrs Paul O insanity as well as the movie reviews, and independant movie reviews really make this show so much different from any other show. It's is for all these and many more reasons why this show is the best talk show on regular radio.

I'll have to admit that my annual report for the show wouldn't be fantastic. I think just in the last 2 months the show has FINALLY began to set in for me.
Maybe its Giant Brian and the new producing staff, maybe its not. But something is definetly different for me. The show flows more, its funnier, and overall just more lively.
Anyone else notice the same thing? During last year it wasn't really a big deal to miss a show, but now I'm getting like the NY days where I anticipate turning the show on at 7.

Well, as someone who thinks every noise that comes out of their beautiful, precious little mouths is golden nuggets of high comedy, and thus...they can do no wrong (haha), I find every show a must listen - however, I can see the evolution of the show to where they are now.
If anything is different, I think they are both more relaxed and comfortable where they are. For the first half of the year there was the double duties, a new contract that needed to be signed, some unresolved behind the scenes issues and conflicts. I think being comfortable helps a lot.
They are adults and professionals - they know radio is one of the most unstable environments anyone could get into. That said, they have been through more than enough bullshit out of their control since they came up from Florida, and they deserve(d) to be treated better - and with the exception of this Terps basketball, it seems like they have been.

That said, they have been through more than enough bullshit out of their control since they came up from Florida, and they deserve(d) to be treated better - and with the exception of this Terps basketball, it seems like they have been.

.
I've been giving my 2004 report a lot of thought.
Honestly, instead of going through it, I'd rather just forget it happened and hope for a great 2005.
I will just consider the 2004 year soil for the future of the show.
I don't know if their show will ever be what I'm hoping it will.
They almost seem to want to drag their feet and start flailing if the show looks like it's going someplace. And I'm stunned when it happens.
Also, you lucky ones that can get the show via the air, consider this:

Some of us were cut off for months in 2004 : (
I hope Fez can hang in there in 2005. Sometimes I've noticed that he just seems to start listening for long periods and Ron has to almost stop and drag him back into the conversation.
Stay away from the light Fezzy!
