J.C. Right-click on "My Computer" and click "Explore". You will see c:, my documents, etc... At this point, you can type a web address into the address bar. Go to Microsoft.com, and click on windows update. Follow the instructions from there. Also, intsall ad-aware or spybot, if you don't have them. You probably have a spyware program that has corrupted one of IE's .dll files.
Good luck,
KC

do you get an error message, or it just stops responding where you have to ctrl-alt-del and kill the process?

Johny I had the same problem. Let me ask you, are you using some kind of dsl or cable connection? I use dsl and this happened to me because I didnt install it correctly. Uninstall your web provider then install it again, correctly.

****I'm not great with stuff like this, so don't take my word for it. But it did help my Internet/popup/freezing problem*****
i had problems a few weeks ago and this is what i did....i went to Help and did a system restore. in XP it asks if you want to restore the computer to a prior date. I chose a date prior to having the problem and it worked great. Plus i didn't lose any of my saved files.

WJ might be right. If you have a newer OS, when you start-up your computer, click the start-up options button (F1, F8, ect. depending on your OS) and choose system restore. Then choose the day before this problem started happening. You will probably loose anything you've done since then (therefore, before you do this, you might want to backup some files you've recently made on floppy or zip.)

Im using Windows ME. I have a dial up connection.
I downloaded the newer version of Internet Explorer but it looked the same as the one I had before. I open it up and it freezes afew seconds after that. I try to ctrl+alt+delete but it doesnt work. I have to turn the computer off.
This sucks. I know i need memory or ram or whatever it is. Its sooooo slow too.

I do not think you can uninstall IE in windows ME. It sounds like you either have a virus or A LOT of spyware. Try downloading AVG Virus control from Grisoft.com. It is free anti-virus. Also from download.com grab Ad-Aware. It is spyware removal. All of this will be hard to get without a browser, so if you need I can download it for you and send it to you.

Have you downloaded any porn of a brunette banging a horse? Because that really slowed my computer down.
They said you'd help me
But as it turns out it was all a lie
And they're off someplace far away laughing at me...

How can I just completely clean out my computer? Theres nothin on this one that i would need to save so I wan to just totally start fresh on this slow-ass computer. How do I erase it all and then restore just what I want on it?
(Please forgive me for being so computer-dumb)

It sounds like your problem isn't from IE. You probably haven't been taking care of your computer and this is just the result.
Take your ME cd (if you can get rid of ME, it sucks) and just uninstall windows. Then re-install it. That should take care of your problems.
If for some reason you want to wipe your entire hard drive (including windows) try a program like Eraser (http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/).
