I don't understand the criteria for Comeback player of the year. to me the "comeback" part means you have a player who reached a certain level of play, then for whatever reason (injury or bad performance) he has a bad year or two. Then he returns to his great level of performance...hence the comeback.

This year Jon Kitna won. He did have a good end to last season and had a good year this year. But the rest of his career has been horrible. So he had no high level of performance to return to. So what exactly was the comeback? Maybe most improved player, but not comeback. Stephen Davis should have won the award. He was a top running back...really struggled last year (mostly due to coaching) and has now returned or comeback to his old level of play.

Just something that bothered me today and was trying to get other opinions.

It doesn't bother me that much, Kitna was a pretty solid player a few years ago in Seattle and took them to the playoffs once or twice. The reason I think he got the nod was how he was almost benched after the 1-4 start for heir to the throne Carson Palmer.

What about the co-MVP award? After all the buildup as to who was the most valuable between McNair and Manning, they give the award to both. All I know is Manning plays with a future Hall of Famer in Harrison and All Pro Running Back Edgerrin James. McNair has Drew Bennett and the rotting Eddie George Carcass. Now who's more valuable?

I saw on ESPN.com that Kitna was awarded Comeback Player of the Year and I too got very confused on what 'Comeback PLayer of the Year' is based on. Sure, someone can argue that Kitna was almost benched for Carson Palmer but he wasnt. And he did improve very much this season, but he did not return to the greatness that people used to think of when people thought of Jon Kitna. He didnt comeback to that greatness because he never was great. He didnt comeback to anything besides the starting QB job of Cincinnati. You might as well give the award to Quincy Carter, I mean, he won back his starting position in Dallas, and got his team to the playoffs? Shouldnt that make him the comeback player of the year? No. So dont ask me how Kitna won.

There wasnt reallly any great comebacks this year, but the guy who shouldve won is Stephen Davis. He was a top running back in previous years, last year he didnt play the full season, had only 800-something yards and this year hes got over 1400 and is the reason Carolina won the NFC South and got into the playoffs. Thats a comeback.
