Tug McGraw Dies (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3883528/)
Mets fans, and baseball fans in general, a moment of silence for a guy who was always fun to watch.

With tears in my eyes as type this I bid farewell to one of my childhood heroes. At the young age of 7 I can still remember jumping around my living room as Tug McGraw jumped up from the mound after striking out Willie Wilson to bring the Phillies their only Championship. That image is Philadelphia Sports Legend nowadays since we don't see titles too often. That 1980 team is held so high down here.
Former owner Paul Owens last week and now Tugger. I sure hope there won't be any more. This season looks to bright. All the more reason to go for trying to win it all!
Tug was doing so well after having the tumor removed last spring. It was such a charge to see him at his many appearances throughout the closing ceremonies that were celebrated during The Vets final year. Seeing him at the final ceremony last game be brought to the mound via limousine and re-enact the 1980 Championship with Harry Kalas doing the play by play was one of my fondest memories.
The thread title says it perfectly as far as this coming season goes.

Damnit. I thought he was recovering. Man, this is a downer.
Once asked whether he preferred to play on a grass field or an artificial surface, he said, "I don't know. I never smoked any AstroTurf."
And I'm glad Steve Somers is on the Fan right now to take the calls.

What a shame. Maybe the Mets will have an inspiration to win this year.

As a guy who's both a Met fan (unfortunately) and a father who has brain cancer (even more unfortunately) it sucks to see Tug go.
I kept the sports section away from dad today, so he wouldn't see this. RIP TUG

I saw him in a diner in Midtown about 6 months ago. He looked great, dapper in a leather jacket.
It goes to show that you just never know.

I remember the commercial he made with his son Tim, the tour bus was pulled over and the state trooper was more impressed that TUG was on the bus and not his son Tim.
The commercial ended with Tug throwing pitches and the trooper clocking it with his radar gun and saying
"Yea...he's still got it"
Rest in Peace Tug.....thanks for all the great memories..you're in no more pain

Bowie, Md.: Berkeley, I'm so glad you're back!; I've really missed The Far Side all these years.
Berkeley Breathed: Yes, thank you, but I don't draw Far Side. I draw Calvin and Hobbes.

Another great quote I read today:
When asked what he would do with his bonus from winning the World Series, Tug responded, "Well, 90% of it I'll spend on whiskey and women. The other 10% I probably just piss away."
My kind of man.
