Go over to ign.com for more of this story.

Tom Cruise as Iron Man (http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/449/449023p1.html)

I did enjoy Last Samurai though, so who knows.

Finally Tom Cruise will get some credibility.

This is great! We get to see a drunken Tony Stark played by Cruise. Hopefully he'll install a catheter for those long rides in the armor.

IRON MAN RULES!!!

Cruise is just looking for opportunities to get his wheezy alcoholic laugh on film.

He was a drug user in minority report because he lost his son and he was an alcoholic in Last Samurai. Now this. I think he has some issues.

Way to pick a wooden actor to play an Iron Man.

I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, I wasn't there and if I was there I was asleep.

This movie could really get Tom's career of the ground. I see a bright future for this kid.

I agree with Jeff.
Cruise ought to do a film on Baby Huey.

Well, nine years. It was right before I moved in 1994 when I first read about it in ye olde "Wizard" magazine.

Shoot me now.

The problem with normal proportioned people wearing armor and helmets is that they end up looking silly. There was one shot in the first Batman where Batmans running and its full body, it looked rediculous! Comics are drawn with people being proportioned 8 1/2 heads high. Normal people are usually 6 1/2 heads high, see below..
http://www.clicket.com/costume/images/15549.jpg
If a guy shaped like Tom Cruise were to put on a helmet, its makes his head look even bigger, so a full body shot would seems really out of proportion and dumpy. Even the guy that wore the C3PO suit was only slightly over 6 1/2 heads high, and he was super skinny, so they try and avoid full body shots in movies or pair you with someone whos very small, so it doesnt become obvious.

I think they got it down by the time Spiderman came out, even though he isnt that tall, he pulls it off because they almost never show him head to toe right next to someone else.
This guys got it down though, he appears 8 heads high...

They gotta be tall and thin with small heads, and Cruise is like 5 foot 6 or something right? Unless they have a body double?

One of my favorite comic book characters from Marvel - I believe I still have a complete run from #1 - #250, as well as every issue from Tales of Suspence with him in it. That said, I really don't want this to happen.

It doesn't have anything to do with Cruise - I have nothing really for or against him. I thought he was great in Magnolia, Born on the 4th of July and Minority Report. I've hated the Mission Impossible films, and Last Samurai pissed me off too. But I still don't avoid movies, or go see them, simply because he's in them.

I just have concerns about how this will translate to the big screen. As sr71blackbird said, it's the costume - I don't know how realistic that would translate to the big screen without looking completely dorky!

Also, THE HULK (done by a director I respect) and DAREDEVIL did nothing to reassure me that all comic book characters should be adapted.

Do Captain America first...do the Fantastic Four...do The Dazzler... just leave Iron Man to the comics! Please!!

Is Iron Man the same person as Iron Fist???

If it is, I'm all on board with it.

The only person who could effectively portray Tony Stark/Iron Man is Lee Horsley...TV's "Matt Houston".

No, but Ray Parks is still in talks to play Iron Fist.

I heard he wants to do this movie cause he loves the idea of a scientologist who builds his own iron suit.
