92.7 wlir - change of format?

ok, this is for new york people only... what they hell happened to 92.7 fm? it's been my favorite station since wnew changed formats, and my favorite music station since i was in high school. i turned it on today to hear a commercial in spanish. i thought, "hey, that's weird," but kept listening. the music - god awful. while i didn't listen for too long, i got no explanation. i tried going to the website, but it was down.

anyone have any info?

A Letter From The President.

The Morey Organization has owned and operated WLIR 92.7 for the past 16 years. A few months ago, after careful thought and consideration, we began a transaction to sell the 92.7 frequency to Univision Communications. That transaction has recently received FCC approval and the sale has been scheduled to close.

At 12:00 noon on January 9, 2004, WLIR-FM will cease to broadcast on 92.7, and the frequency will be transferred to Univision Communications.

Fuck! I wasnt even a fan of the music, but it just pains me to see this radio station leave Long Island. I dont care what music they play, they've been a Long Island tradition and those lazy saturday mornings in the kitchen eating pancakes, you bet I had LIR on the dial.

what other station would have the cajones to make the Ren and Stimpy theme the screamer of the week. Admittedly, they became just another alterna-rock station when they went back to lir from dre, but they were starting to get good again with all the retro and stuff.

this is coming from an disgruntled ex-emplyee of the the vanderbilt that got fired for a bullshit reason. from an inside point of view, they spread themselves too thin. 2 radio stations, li press, a club that has been sliding, etc...

they were on top of the world at one point, but pushed the limit and screwed over people (not me, but groups that helped develop what they were). wlir is just a casualty of profit. john & jed are good guys, but they wanted too much too soon and put people into management positions that were detrimental to moving forward( that's my opinion).

Don't do it!!! I'm originally from the Bronx and moved out to Huntington a few years ago..I swear all the Bronx Hispanics followed me out here...I actually see one or two that I locked up over the years!!! I'm moving back to the Bronx...should be safe by now!!!!
