I have been hearing things all over the metal community as well may have you about this new project from Dave Grohl and metal legends like Lee Dorrian, Wino and Lemmy. The album surfaces on Southern Lord in the beginning of February. Should be pretty damn cool. Like metal or not Grohl is absolutely out of his mind musically. I think it is cool because maybe it may give some creedence to some of the older bands that really were never big in their day but were vital forces in the realm of heavy music. Bands like Venom and Saint Vitus. Celtic Frost and Cathedral. I would love to see a resurgence in old school metal.

It's sounds cool. I've been hearing about it for a while now. I thought I heard that a couple of guys from Slayer were going to contribute. But I'm interested in hearing the King Diamond track.

Guitar World had a big interview with Grohl about the band, pretty intresting stuff. He was also named Rock Guitarist of 2003.

I havent looked at the liner notes lately, but I think Grohl did a lot [some? most?] of the drums on the Tenacious D release.

And being able to play all those instruments doesnt amount to crap unless you can do what he's done, and very very few others can: write great Songs. that's the real talent, IMHO.

Dave Ghrol did the drums on Queens of the Stone Age's Songs for the Deaf and the entire Tenacious D album.

He apperantly wrote just about every song on this album, except for lyrics. He wrote the riffs and drums and sent them to different metal heads to work with, and send back. They then ended up doing the final stuff with an actual band and he sat at the drums.

Grohl actually did most of the "plugged in" music on the Tenacious D album, not just the drums. And he played Satan in their video for "Tribute".

RAWK.

I saw the video for this on MTV2--Headbangers ball. Very cool song--has that old metal sound, sounds a lot like Motorhead, in fact.

Dave Grohl also played drums on the new Killing Joke album, so add that to the list.

new Killing Joke album

What a Kick Ass band, who, like Ministry, had some very dance oriented early material, and changed radically

The new Killing Joke album REALLY let me down.

Hope it doesn't do the same for you, Mike.

Got my CD in the post this morning and the vinyl comes tomorrow. It is a really good record.

The Tom Warrior song is a but "Into The Pandemonium"ish and King Diamond doesn't really shreik as much as I thought.

The Cronos song is quite fucking "Venom"ous.

I need to go and get "War and Pain" from Voivod tomorrow. The liner notes by Grohl and how he describes that records is a seller for me.

The thing I keep smacking myself over is that only recently through listening to Spirit Caravan, Wino (who has been in The Obsessed, Saint Vitus and The Hidden Hand also) his track definitely stands out as my favorite so far. All through high school in all my metal glory I had never heard any of his music beore and (I smella thread) 15 years later I could kick myself cause Imissed out on some great albums. Most of the stuff he has done is in the Sabbath vein and it just some of the most emotionally spiritual groovinest rock I have heard in some time. Since Sabbath and pre-Kyuss. Hell, I didn't even start my really hardcore listening of Sabbath until 1995 or so when I heard Master of Reality. Man was I late on that one. I had only had We Sold Our Soul...

Kurt Brecht is doing his track just like you would expect. Remember Crossover?

I never got into COC until Blind came out but the track displayed here is quite a good convincer or making want to hear the likes of Technocracy and 6 Songs I think it is?

The Max Cavalera track is very Soulfly-ish but has an Roots era Sepultura feel. The lyrics especially are a bit haunting as he wrote them a week before September 11 on a flight out of NYC.

My friend and I SWEAR that Jack Black is doing the vocals on the bonus track as he is screaming "I am the Warlock!" Very raw as it was recorded in 6 days.

There is apparently another track on the vinyl version and I will post on that tomorrow if anyone really cares.

Saw them on Headbangers Ball this weekend, I really liked it. The Shake Your Blood song was really good, the video was saucy too.

Wouldn't surprise me. I haven't heard the Probot cd yet, but Jables and Grohl are friends. Jack appeared in Foo videos and Dave played on the D's cd

That's the Suicide Girls in the video.
I had friend who was supposed to go out there for the video, but there was an incident and then they didn't want her out there. I think she's still on the site, though.
