George W. Bush: No President has ever done more for human rights than I have.

This better have been taken WAY out of context. I'm not even going to get into all the accusations that he has been BAD for human rights (all are debatable), but what the fuck has he done for human rights?

saving the lives of thousands of iraqi men women and children from an opressive and abusive leader
Partial credit at best. The war has replaced state repression with an insurgency with no end in sight, which is targeting Iraqis as much as American soldiers, and still has only a distant chance of ending up with a stable, half-way democratic government. Maybe if the first Bush had attempted this when the Anfal campaign of genocide was still in its infancy could you say that this kind of operation is actually advancing human rights.
and freeing afghanistan from the grips of the taliban
Also with slim chances of ending up in a stable semi-democratic state with authority over the country as a whole, it is instead back to the state of regional warlordism that it was in before the Taliban took over the whole country. The Bush administration chose to empower the warlords of the Northern Alliance, and then leave them in place when the Taliban fell. To varying degrees those warlords are now working to restore their own territorial authority and bucking the central government. The Taliban, returning from refuge in Pakistan are increasingly operating in the open in Afghanistan, making the US operation to eradicate them permanently a long-term operation, while the central semi-democratic government struggles to gain authority beyond Kabul. If the administration had committed itself to the publicly stated goals of Afghanistan, the prospects for Afghanistan would look better. But right now, it looks like the warlords are just buying time until the US troops leave and leave them to go back to open warfare for personal power. Things are better now than under the Taliban, but we haven't done much to ensure stability or peace for the future.
I'd give higher marks to the first Bush for the operation in Somalia in terms of saving lives than these two operations. There have been improvements for large segments of the populations of Iraq and Afghanistan, but they have come at the cost of being subject to open warfare and grim prospects for future peace. These missions weren't intended to enhance human rights, even if that was expected to be an ancillary objective, and they were too distorted by political and ideological objectives to be considered human rights successes.

what i am truly afraid of is electing a president who publicly states that he or she would favor pulling the us military forces out of iraq as several of them have stated, what kind of message would this send to the world community and terrorist groups,
that the insurgency of anti american forces has worked. would this not embolden these terrorist groups
even in post war europe pro nazi groups were comitting acts of terror through out the continent but we did not give up, we have made a commitment to the people of these two countrys, we must follow through and not allow our selves to become bewildered by the statements of those seeking political office

You know what, why don't you add he hasn't cured cancer or aids or solved the problems of world hunger, poverty and inflation. And throw in the fucking rainforest as well. The only way a Republican can impress the libs on this board is he has to reverse or eradicate political and social climates that have been evolving over decades and sometimes centuries. I guess Uncle Bill, or Howard Dean, or Gore would have this mess cleaner now. Give me a F'en break. So far since 9/11 we have miraculously avoided any terrorist attacks here. Afghanastan, with all its warlords, is still ratifying a constitution. Nobody thought it would be Disney World in two years. Iraq is out of the hands of an Oppressive dictator. Libya is (hopefully) in the process of disarming its admited weapons of mass destruction, Korea is looking to negotiate, Saudi Arabia has become more cooperative in hunting terrorists. Sounds to me like a better climate to live in. Yeah they are still hornets nests, but only the Democrats have magic wands to make everything all better and turn the middle east into the Mickey Mouse club. Who brought the democratic candidates into the thread instead of arguing the subject at hand? You guys can't take any criticism of your boy, and how is that any better than the blanket rejection of him you accuse the "liberals" of? All the liberals I can think of on this board see the democratic candidates as the lesser of evils. But we get Clinton, Gore and Dean thrown in our faces as the all purpose red herring when you don't want to argue an issue on facts or honest analysis. I may be wrong about Iraq and Afghanistan, but you'll never know it because you're only interested in defending your side in an ideological war. If you really think your boy is a champion of human rights, then do the research and find out what human rights are, and what's different now than three years ago. But don't just bitch endlessly in every political thread that we won't march in lock-step with you behind the president.

Let's keep this thread on track. HBox made it very clear in his first post that he's criticizing/questioning this specific comment of Bush's. There's no need for this to devolve into ANOTHER liberal vs. conservative thread.
And if people can list Republicans they "approve of", why would Se7en have to list "liberals" he approves of, as opposed to just Democrats?

My challenge was not directed to se7en but to someone else, using his exact words, which is why it was framed in that way with "libs" in quotes.
BTW - how would the right leaning folks on the board react if instead of "Conservative" or "Republican" we just agreed to dismiss all of them, and the half the country "we" don't agree with as "NeoCons"? Everyone.
Speaking of someone who is often dismissive, I'll let the listing slide for se7en - but 2 still does not = 2 dozen.

There's no need for this to devolve into ANOTHER liberal vs. conservative thread
Sadly for some, there is a need. Failing ego-driven and non-associational thinking, for many here it's been quite simply, right vs. left; rep vs. dem, conserv vs. liberal; as if the two parties actually had differences in the year 2004. As if the entire spectrum of political thought could be distilled into two discrete camps of thought. As if Dems don't act exactly and prescisely like the Reps and vice versa.
Some must invent differences, and use this as a jumping-off point for displaying an entire spectrum of self-loathing, insecurities, and long-held angers at The Other Side.
As if it mattered...

My post was not directed at you. And while it had little to do with your thread, it had everything to do with the usual cheap, piling on of posts stating how imcompetent Bush is and that he's a bufoon who does nothing right. Which also had nothing to do with your thread.

Just like a Liberal to twist the "Subject at hand" I was not arguing about whether Bush was a human rights champion which is obviously a matter of opinion. I was protesting about the usual inane droning on of what an imbecile good for nothing that Bush is.
Which is derailing the discussion that was about Bush's claim to be a human rights champion.
There is a differnce between "marching in lock step" and defending someone's competence against people that will despise him no matter what he does.
No, you were attacking anyone who criticizes Bush. In order to be defending him you would have to be addressing the issues brought up, not just launching into ad hominem attacks and straw men attacks on liberals in general. For example:
If Bush took your parents out to dinner you would have him arrested for kidnapping.
What's the point of this childish bullshit? My parents send him money every month, so it wouldn't be that surprising. But you can't do anything but be pro-republican/conservative and anti-liberal/democrat because you're too fucking lazy to learn the issues. It's pathetic.
I mentioned these prominent Democrats because while Bush can never do anything right, you don't seem to have any problem finding the silver lining of anything these guys do.
Show me an example of me "finding the silver lining of anything these guys do." Back your accusations up just once. If it's true then it's all right here on the board just waiting for you to find it with the search engine.
All I'm asking is that you make an argument based on the issue and stop just crybabying for the president. These threads are an exercise in fallacies because most of you conservatives are interested in who has political power and not about how that power is used. The liberals do it too, but aside from a few notable exeptions you guys are predictable. Stick to the fucking issues. It's too fucking boring to have this endless bitch-fests that have nothing to do with anything.

BTW - how would the right leaning folks on the board react if instead of "Conservative" or "Republican" we just agreed to dismiss all of them, and the half the country "we" don't agree with as "NeoCons"?
Hell, some of you here do that.
You know of whom I speak.
Speaking of someone who is often dismissive, I'll let the listing slide for se7en - but 2 still does not = 2 dozen.
Everyone (except perhaps Hbox) seems to be missing my little joke.
I was very specific in my two choices for a reason.

Which is derailing the discussion that was about Bush's claim to be a human rights champion.
Exactly, so maybe you should address the posts making Bush out to be a retard.
He's retarded
Maybe if I was as learned or eloquent as you I wouldn't get this shit.
No, you were attacking anyone who criticizes Bush. In order to be defending him you would have to be addressing the issues brought up, not just launching into ad hominem attacks and straw men attacks on liberals in general.
What the fuck are you talking about? I specifically stated I wasn't refering to the theme of the thread, only the usual posts that follow calling Bush an imbecile. And these posts are not usually from conservatives so I dont think I was too far out on a limb addressing these posters as liberal.
What's the point of this childish bullshit? My parents send him money every month, so it wouldn't be that surprising. But you can't do anything but be pro-republican/conservative and anti-liberal/democrat because you're too fucking lazy to learn the issues. It's pathetic.
You arrogant fuck. Who are you to call me lazy because I don't see the world through your twisted glasses. Where do you get off telling me I don't know the issues. I never argue anything I don't know about. Where do you get off calling me antiliberal or antidemocratic? I don't write anything inflammatory except about posters such as yourself, that rip every Bush move because in your infinite wisdom you know, because there is still kaos in the middle east, that everything was a failure. I guess Afghanastan and Iraq could have been all cleaned up by now by a better man. So that means I don't know the issues.
Show me an example of me "finding the silver lining of anything these guys do." Back your accusations up just once. If it's true then it's all right here on the board just waiting for you to find it with the search engine.
Obviously you are F'en paranoid. That was not directed at you individually. It was a general statement. Because while people like you are constantly on Bush's ass, how everything F'en thing he does is wrong, these guys are the lesser of "evils" and would always handle these situations better.
We are predictable? I am not even going to explain myself again. You like to blanketly list every move Bush makes, talk about related complications and how therefore it wont work. Because you know the issues. But don't attack blanket stupid statements if the attack mentions liberals. Because this is your message board.
Hate to tell you ....but you are the crybaby
