Billionaire Soros Says Bush Must Not Be Re-Elected (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=615&e=3&u=/nm/campaign_soros_dc)

The financier and philanthropist likened the Bush administration's international policies to George Orwell's Animal Farm. In that book the farm animals are all equal but the powerful pigs take charge and change the rules to justify their behavior.

Soros said Bush "used the war on terror as a pretext to pursue a dream of American supremacy that is neither attainable or desirable."

"I consider it crucial that the policies of the Bush administration be rejected in the forthcoming election," Soros said in a speech promoting his new book at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

What's the point of this? Are we supposed to be surprised that Soros doesn't like Bush? That's like saying Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh are somewhat peeved at Democrats.

The one thing I would like from liberals is that they find new material to compare Bush to, because the Hitler / Animal Farm comparisons have become just so cliche. They need to throw out something more fresh. I mean, if John Kerry were to suddenly make a remark comparing Bush to, say, Ming the Merciless, I'd probably mark out.

I remember when Pink Floyd came out with the LP Animals, and to mark the occasion, they had these bigass balloons floating high above the place where the record release was being celebrated.
The pig and a cow and I think one or two others broke loose from their tethers and floated freely for miles over Great Britain.

You're gonna have to list some because what I see is conservatives using an enless stream of accusations, ( like: "they always compare my man to hitler"), instead of libs really treating the guy all that unfairly. If there's countless of them this shouldn't be a tall order to fill.

Obscure websites by radical nobodies that you found through Google? Are you really going to claim that you had seen these before Se7en made the claim that these comparisons are common? The only reference that reached the mainstream press was "one of the 1,512 submissions from the general public." It would have never left the website had not FOX written a story about it. Nice job Joseph Goebbels.

You want mainstream? How about 3 AMERICAN REPRESENTATIVES?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A8416-2000Jun27

There's something about Bill. President Clinton has always had an extraordinary knack for driving Republicans--and often Democrats--absolutely 'round the bend. How else to explain the recurrent comparisons to Adolf Hitler that keep surfacing when folks talk about Clinton and his administration?

For example, retiring <b>Rep. Helen Chenoweth-Hage (R-Idaho)</b>, commenting on one of Clinton's national monument designations, said, "This president is engaging in the largest land grab since the invasion of Poland."

<b>Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.)</b> went a bit further a couple of weeks ago when Clinton designated Arizona's Ironwood Forest a national monument. "I would draw a parallel to Hitler," Shadegg said. "He eroded the will of the German people to resist evil."

Our favorite is <b>Arkansas Republican Rep. Jay Dickey</b>'s recent fundraising letter reminding supporters they can give him $1,000 for the primary and another $1,000 in the general election campaign. He doesn't want anyone to "later . . . say to me that I should have reminded you of the threats," he said.

"Just as people who read Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' and then later were surprised at the evils of the 3rd Reich [sic]," Dickey said, "we have the blueprint for what the White House plans to do: defeat me! This is because I not only dared to vote my conscience on the impeachment issue, but dared to do it after a publicly expressed threat that I would lose the election if I did. Are we going to let an astounding abuse of power go unanswered?"

Election defeat and gas chambers? Folks who survived or lost close family in the Holocaust might be offended at this trivialization of evil.

If only we had a president, well we do in elected President Al Gore, although he's not able to do anything due to this US Supreme Court-selectee occupying his office illegitimately so. Bush has lied repeatedly to the world, and by doing so killing thousands of innocent people.

Assuming you (Mr Veteran) spoke one word of criticism against elected President Clinton when he was in office, would you say you looked foolish when "bashing" Clinton then?

It seems to me one is supposed to speak up and express themselves in a democratic republic under the Bill of Rights. Where one does not or is not supposed to be critical of a politician sounds more like a lockstep dictatorship to me.

It seems to me that one needs to grow up and grow some thicker skin if they're too fragile to listen to criticism of Bush's failed policies.

Presumably, the troops are risking their lives every day so that we might have the FREEDOM to express our views, and yes, our views in opposition to Bush's failed policies.

How do you know Bush won even without the US Supreme Court when all the votes were not counted?

Under our system of governance, the Electoral College vote is based on the popular vote. Well, all of the popular vote was not counted because Bush asked the Supreme Court to STOP the counting of votes in Florida. In addition, according to the US Constitution, the House of Representatives is to resolve a disputed federal election (which a presidential election is), not any court in the land. How fast we all forget these things.

This has been discussed many, many times here before, so forgive me if I'm not about to dive headlong into it again.

Whether people like it or not, the 2000 election was handled "by the book." There were mutliple ways to deal with that situation, and the one chose perfectly accomadates the mandates of our government, legally and Constitutionally.

Again, no court in this land is to have a role in a presidential election under the US Constitution. That's the document I go by. So you can say that it was legit, but that doesn't make it so.

What it does do is to legitimize Bush's first term, which is what the Republicans and many others want people to do.

I refuse to do so, standing by the Constitution.

What does it take these days for some people to call a failed policy what it is? You don't consider thousands of innocent people dead an example of a failed policy based on lies? If you or a family member could take the place of one of the dead, maybe you'd have a different view of this.

As for your smugness, no, I never said I had it all figured out. But what I do have is a respect for the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, two documents I never hear Bush supporters or pro-war/death and killing people ever mention.

I never said that Al Gore would have figured it all out either. They are your words, not mine. In fact, I had only very lukewarm support for Al Gore in 2000. Today, I wish he would just go away.
