Someone please help me.
i have a long-haired black and white cat, and a black shirt. For the longest time now i have been trying to keep the 2 separated, but nothing is working. i have to lint roller the black shirt everytime i want to wear it. i have tried the static guard spray to try to keep the hair from sticking, but that and nothing else is doing anything for it. i've tried actually sealing the shirt in a bag after i clean it all off, and still the hair finds its way on it. i wore the shirt on saturday, and when i came home, i hung it up so it would be away from the cat; i look at it now, and it is covered in cat hair.
Is there anything, short of shaving the cat, that i can do to make my clothing less susceptible to the cat hair sticking to it.

No.
If the hair's around, it's gonna stick.
All I can say is you need to vacuum, vacuum vacuum, and brush your cat every day so it sheds less about the house, and well, get used to it.
We have a yellow lab and a black border collie mix and I gave up long, long ago trying to keep hair off of things.
You might also be getting hair onto your sweater off of OTHER thngs, ie maybe your bathtowel has hair on it so you end up with some on your body after a shower, maybe your overcoat has hair inside it so it gets on your sweater when you wear it, that kind of thing.

Man, I envy you. I want a dog and either one of those would be awesome. I know labs are great with kids, how are border collies with kids?

Well, first you get a length of rope.
Then you carefully follow instructions from your Boy Scout manual on tying a noose.
Then you get the camera...

Mine is great as long as the kids don't wander into the house when she's home alone. She's quite a guard dog. She'd probably eat one. But otherwise she's pretty typical border collie in that she's attached to me and only me. If we're out and about, she doesn't really care what people do to her; her attention is all on me. Of course, she's not typical border collie in that she's pretty much dumb as a stump. either that or she's above it all, i'm not sure which!

My dog sheds like crazy. Its impossible to keep dog hair off my clothes. The best thing to do is keep a lint brush around and use it just as youre walking out the door.

The cat probably lounges on a chair that you sit on. As you sit on it, your weight forces air from the cushions, up through the material of the chair, into the air and it carrys the hair into the air which settles on your shirt.
Get yourself a Sphynx cat, they are hairless!http://www.sphynxcat.com/images/sph2_1.jpg
