I'm sure some of you have hear the add on AM radio from the Seneca Nation. They're fighting to keep NYS from taxing them. While i think they're overstating their position in that "this action will cause over 1000 Indians to lose thir jobs", I do agree that they shouldn't be taxed. they should be left alone.

I guess I don't know enough about the situation to make an informative decision, but based on personal politics I don't think they should be taxed.

I tell American Indians, when the issue comes up, a line from Animal House, after they destroy Flounders car:

"You Fucked Up! You Trusted Us!!"

-------------------

seriously; it's horrific what was done in the past, and part of what we do now, can, in a real way, 'repair' the past.

having said that, what of the people the Indians conquered? And who conquered those before those?

yes, it's pure conjecture; but the more we study the more we see that north america was inhabited by quite a few peeps. There are almost certainly, if history has any merit, many other people who inhabited these lands, if not in huge numbers, but they were there. 10,000 years? I'd bet and give odds. 50,000? Ditto. But it's moot cause every trace of them has been wiped out OR not yet discovered.

And we have absolutely no idea they were ever here. None. Happens in science, mainly anthro or paleo or zoology ALL the time.

We are the blink of an eye.

No group should get anything "extra". We all have the same opportunities. Bury the past, live for now, plan for the future.

Scalping should be legalized! This November vote "Yes" in Article 32 for Legal Scalping! Then we can finally take care of Jerry Jones!

I dont have any problem not taxing existing land and businesses - what gets me is when they either buy more or petition that existing land should be theirs, and then it becomes tax exempt - it makes it tough for other businesses in the area to compete and makes everyone else pay more of their share....

Indians should not be taxed. As a Republican, I am a supporter of local autonomy. Nevermind the whole genocide thing.

You should tax the Indians........I mean, when I go into a 7-11 and pay the tax on my cigarettes, why should they be able to keep it ?

one thing that I found was interesting when I worked for then INS, many American Indians do not have US passports, because they're not considered US citizens. They had a passport, and sometimes just a tribal ID from their particular tribal nation, and they were able to travel on that. Other countries recognized them as valid because the Dept of Interior recognized the passports & ID's.
