Annoying Weather reporting trend

Im getting SICK & TIRED of hearing people say "its the coldest its been in a hundred years!!" and I try and correct them and they say "I heard it on the news!".
Well, what they are hearing is that for this DATE, and since they have been keeping records, the temperature is the lowest its been FOR THIS DATE. It DOES NOT mean that that it hasnt been LOWER, its just a stupid thing that the weather men started doing like 2 years back to make the weather SEEM exciting. It pisses me off, because they arent listening. I clearly remember lows at zero and below as a kid, and people have a 5 minute attention span so they think its really the coldest its been in a hundred years, and Im tired of having to explain to everyone.

i know what you mean, i can remember sub zero temps as a kid.
i thought this was going to be about the thing that happens everytime theres prolonged adverse weather. The anchor(s) will direct towards the weatherman and will always say something asinine like its the weathermans fault its -4 degrees or 100 degrees outside, and then the weatherman will always give a dumb laugh and apologize like he really did do it. That shit pisses me off.
