Yeah, upon hearing that Diamond Darrell and his brother Vinnie Paul of the MIGHTY Pantera were putting together a new band I was thrilled. I loved Pantera and to see Phil pretty much turn himself into a waste and the band dissolve into nothing, I wanted to hear something new. Dimebag is an excellent guitarist and I think he is an incredibly talented musician. Vinnie ROCKS the drums!
The only problem I have is that after viewing the video a few times and hearing the advance of the album.....
Could there not have been a better choice for a vocalist? Maybe someone that didn't sound like or even (according to the video) have the same presence as Phil Anselmo?
I am NOT saying this is bad. Some of you may be content with a complete rehashing of the prime meat of Pantera's illustrious career (Cowboy, Vulgar era). I was really hoping for something different. Still heavy. Still metal. Something to set yourselves apart from your previous band. Something FRESH!
I have a hard time differenciating between the former and the latter now. It really bums me out because I was really really looking forward to this.
At least Phil went on to do two completely different animals with Down and Superjoint. As opposed to going to the School of Phil to find the best alumni.
