UPN Making Reality Show About Amish (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=494&e=3&u=/ap/20040118/ap_en_tv/tv_amish_in_the_city)

LOS ANGELES - The UPN television network is preparing a reality series that follows Amish teenagers having their first experiences with modern conveniences and outside society, part of a religious rite of passage that tests their faith.

Network executives are informally calling it "Amish in the City," although they said Sunday the title will likely change.

"To have people who don't have television walk down Rodeo Drive and be freaked out by what they see, I think will be interesting television," said CBS chairman Leslie Moonves, who also oversees UPN. "It will not be denigrating to the Amish."

Then wouldn't the people being filmed no longer be "real" Amish people? Or will they still live in an "Amish setting" with an "Amish lifestyle", but just in the middle of a big city, and they still do things their own back-asswards ways?

I'd rather watch the boring, overacheiving Patriots in the Super Bowl

Not really... when Amish children turn 16, they are allowed to go into the "English" world and experiment with life outside the Amish community for a year or so. At the end of this period, they then make the decision of whether or not to rejoin the Amish community. Their parents turn a blind eye to the partying and stuff, letting them do anything they want.

And tell me... who could possibly resist drunken Amish chicks?

It's sad that I learned that on ER this season.

I go to school in Lancaster, PA.....literally the home of the Amish. They could have filmed me for 4 years, given me a buttload of money and called it "Normal kid's 4 years in hell". Just keep Paris and Nicole the hell away from that show.

I don't know. It was alright, the amish chicks turned out to be pretty hot after they shed the amish clothes.
The thing that got on my nerves is the fag and the bar party dude that seems like he doesn't like anything there and feels like he shouldn't be there.
They should take both of those assholes off.

This show is a sham like most so called reality show. Some of these Amish aren't Amish. They were once but decided to go mainstream a while back and the show put them in there pretending to still be Amish I guess to shake things up.
Garbage.
