The housing prices...!
http://www.era.com/media/list/1290684_1.jpg
This little townhouse, which anywhere else in the world someone starting out in the world should be able to afford, in Arlington, Virginia costs almost $700,000! (http://www.era.com/listing/1290684/30115.html)
One bedroom condos in this area of Virgnia are around $200,000 - it's just fucking insane. Two bedrooms can be almost $300,000.
Things are more reasonable the further out of the city you go, or if you go to "less desirable" areas like SE Washington or PG County, but even our poor areas are getting expensive.
It use to be county workers in Fairfax County where a lot of this nonsense is taking place, couldn't live in Fairfax County, so they moved to Prince William County. Teachers, cops, firefighers, etc. Now, Prince William County, especially down towards Dale City (which has almost few rental apartments) is becoming the place to live, and the teachers, cops and firefighters that work there are now having to move further south to Frederick and Spotsylvania!
In Baltimore nice homes are still affordable (one friend of mine got a huge Victorian for under $150,000); in North Carolina, Kansas and else where small McMansions, which would go for $500K - $700 K in the out-lying DC burbs, start at $200,000.
Argh...I need to just move to Cancun and be done with this place.

If you don't like it here, leave.
We're really not keeping you here against your will, you know.

RE: The main reason I hate living in this DC area;
I don't live in THAT DC area; I live in this one over here!
Where do Ron and Fez live? Or Don and Mike. I don't need exact locations stalkers, I'm just curious if any of them live in Fairfax (where WJFK physically is located)
Housing prices are out of control here (I live in Fairfax County, not Fairfax City, The city sucks because it's so crowded, but there are lots of cool places in Fairfax County: Neighbors of mine have Horses on thier land but we are just a few minutes from the white house and places to buy crack. I am not jelous of the horses, what the fuck am I gonna do with a horse? Now a goat... )

I hear ya. I live in Baltimore County, working Alexandria. Basically traded time for money. Of course I was living 6 miles from work and it was taking me close to 30 minutes each way. So when I moved 50 miles away and it takes me 1 hour and 15 on average, it didn't seem all that drastic.
I think Don and Mike both live in VA. Don may be closer in to the city (he has mentioned going to the McLean Bible Church on the air I think, but that is a big church and doesn't necessarily mean he lives in/near McLean). Mike may live further out, Manasses seems to come up with him. I think that's where is restaurant is and I think his band plays out there a lot. But I don't know for sure.

se7en - I was actually hoping everyone else (especially those who are not from here) would leave first...
Harry Man Ass - I would gladly live with my folks, but they moved back to Kansas 2 years ago, and sold my childhood home in Alexandria to a family with 5 children under the age of 8...
SofaKing - I loved Fairfax County, but since I've moved into Arlington 11 years ago, I really, really love Arlington. My rent is still under $1000 a month, and I actually have a view of the city, and I'm close to great places like Bob and Ediths and the Cinema and Drafthouse - I just wish I owned it...
Don lives in Great Falls; Mike is way out in the country, but I thought I heard him mention that he moved closer since the divorce; I have no idea where Ron lives, however I have been told by someone who talked with Fez off the air where-about Fezzy lives (Virginia).
When the Sports Junkies were on WJFK, all but one of them lived in Maryland; now that they are on WHFS (which is in Maryland), buying that "money" townhome near the Fairfax studio seems a little bit "hurting."

I live in NY and the prices for homes are insane. Im looking for a house I can buy, renovate and resell so I can make some money to buy a nice home for myself. Im looking for something in the $300K range and for that you cant find anything nice in a good neighborhood. Anywhere else in the country that would buy you a great home. It sucks but there doesnt seem to be any way around it. Im thinking of buying something out of state, like Florida or Georgia because its so cheap down there but I want to do the work myself and that would make it impossible.

Uh, this is yet to be confirmed. It's a really big area, and we have uncovered evidence of a Mojo program, but we are confident we will eventually find actual Mojo.

The Tourists
What tourists? I was taught in Social Studies that Washington, DC is the home of all the citizens of the United States. The White House is the People's House!!! When I go to DC, I OWN that place!! When I walk past the White House, get out of my way cause I'm struttin' like the deed owner. What are you, Mr. MizzleTizzle ( and we know who you really are!!!)....a communist??? damn!!!!!

Mizzle: I will agree with you on the Traffic, the Maryland side of the Beltway, Tourists (unless you are a patient person, and have people to stay with, don't come to DC and do the tourist thing in the springtime - please god, don't!), the heat and Humidity in the summer (although it is much worse elsewhere), pot holes, however Air traffic noise really isn't a problem, the city is use to the President and important people moving from point A to point B so it never really shuts down (it does shut down for big protests or events, though), the Homeless problem is far less an issue here these days than it was 10 years agoand it's nothing compared to San Francisco, we have lots of fine Titty Bars in the District and ever one really nice one real close to where I live in my Uncle Bill-like penthouse apartment, Garbage Collection in the District itself only is bad when it snows - where I live it's great (I even have Sunday service), the Mayor is much better than the two previous people - he's at least fighting for Baseball in the Nation's Capital, and the lines at the Good Museums are a direct result of 9/11 - before then, there were no lines because there wasn't metal detectors and such, but since then it takes a little more time.
That same townhouse in Manhattan would cost you 2.5 million.
Yeah, but this is in the `burbs - in an area where that town home sold for about $300K just two - three years ago. In Georgetown, a town home like that has always been a million dollar home.
we have uncovered evidence of a Mojo program
I refuse to claim Reston has part of the DC metro area, much less part of Virginia. Anything past Tyson's Corner and I feel the need to get my shots and have my passport handy.

Yes.most of the time when people (and when I say "people" I'm talking about myself) even say DC they very rarely are meaning the actual city.

You're mad. I practically live next to the toll road (Lucky me). It takes me 20 minutes at best to get downtown. I'm less than 10 minutes from Tyson's. Don't get all a-scared until you head out onto 81. The way you talk, Dulles Airport would be Bumpkin Central.
