I loved the punk clubs in "the city" but before that my friends and I scoured the tri-state area, mostly Long Island. Places like:
Speaks
Hammerheads
My Father's Place
Rumbottoms
OBI
Malibu
and a few others. It's all a blur! Anybody else party at these places?

in NJ you had Nook's in Elizabeth (if you could see over the bar you got served) QXT in Newark. Surf Club, Tiki Bar, Joe Pop's Jenkinson's all down the shore.

I saw some great shows in the old Lone Star Cafe. Maybe the greatest was when I saw James Cotton (Blues harmonica player) and Koko Taylor on a double bill. Me and my buddy were 19 years old, and the only white dudes in the place. It was the first time I had seen a live blues show, and I'll never forget it. James and Koko rocked the house!

I would die a happy man if I could somehow get my hands on the giant lizard that was on the roof of that place.

I always saw "The Good Rats" at Speaks, and "Zebra" at Hammerheads. "Twisted Sister" was also big in the club circuit before they became big.

I remember going to Danceteria
when I was a Freshman at Fordham!

There was this puny little
club in my hometown (Oyster
Bay, L.I.) called Heartbeat.
It was lame but they got some
pretty amazing bands to play
there-- the Ramones (oodles of
times!), The Replacements (I
got to see Bob Stinson perform
in a tuxedo shirt and
pantyhose, sans underwear),
etc...

F- Wad - Did you go to Spit a lot I worked there for 3 years. I was the girl you saw down stairs by the bathrooms selling the t-shirts for spit and hats. I 'm sure you know me. Remember the lady with red hair selling the pretzels? that was my best buddy, her name was Susan with the long nails!!!!!!!
I was dating Doug the bartender for a year.....Do you also remember RALPH the best bartender there?;)

Alice: Fordham holds many wild memories for me! I saw David Johansen at the Bronx campus and it was one of the best shows I ever saw.
I went to MANY Parties at the Columbus Circle Campus, and all I can say is GO RAMS GO! ;)

I did go to a lot of those bars on LI such as Speaks, OBI, Hammerheads, etc. but also saw live bands on SI in places like the Caves, in NJ the Royal Manor. I also worked one summer in a place in Baldwin called Blackbeards, they had live bands as well

Oh man, The Caves! It has been a while! I also remember "The Factory" on SI, which later was renamed "Snoopys".

In New Jersey, the Soap Factory was big. I saw the Joe Perry Project there. The Meadowbrook was good for live bands. Some bands I remember seeing there were David Johansen, Iggy Pop, and if anyone remembers Our Daughters Wedding, they had a big hit with "Lawn Chairs". Aldo's Hideaway and Wally's Backstage Cafe. All popular and all gone now.
