ok, this may be a really stupid question, but it's been driving me crazy the past few weeks...

it's freezing in my apartment. i have a clock with a thermometer and stuff in my bedroom, and this morning it read 64 degrees. i was wearing two pairs of pants, slipper socks, a shirt and sweatshirt, and i was incredibly cold. now, if it were 64 degrees outside, i would be rocking a pair of jeans and a t shirt and be pretty comfortable.

why the hell is 64 degrees different in my apartment than outside?

cause its manufactured, and elements try to change it. when its 64 outside, everything is 64. when its 64 in your house, 20 is still tryin to creep in through the windows and the pipes and everything still cool areas

That's pretty cold. Try 68 or 69 degrees, especially if you're in your appartment most of the day.

Also, outside you're probably being active, plus often you have factors like the sun shining on you, or the concrete of the street/sidewalk/buildings might be holding on to heat and radiating it back at you making you feel warmer, even if the air temp isn't necessarily that warm. Plus, the thermometer on your thermostat might not be that accurate.

Can you plug in an electric heater? That's what I use at work. At work it's absolutely frigid because I'm on the same floor as the warehouse so it gets very cold. Though I plug in my electric heater and within 20-30 minutes the whole room gets very warm.

Get another thermometer and check to see if the one on the wall is right. I have this atomic clock next to my monitor that has a thermometer on it and it says 69 but my thermostat says 65. I bet if you checked youd see it was warmer than the thing says. Plus, the comparison between inside and outside isnt really fair, because if it was 65 degrees out, you would be more comfortable outside than it is now, thats why you take off your coat when you come in. Inside you get little gusts of cooler air from under the door and drafty windows and what not that make it "feel" colder than it is.

I bet if you checked youd see it was warmer than the thing says. if anything, i think it's the opposite. it is incredibly cold in there. my dress at home is now a tank top, a long sleeve shirt, a sweatshirt, pajama pants, sweat pants, slipper socks, and slippers. all at once. sometimes i'll put my hood on, too. sometimes i put on gloves when i sleep.

$30 from Home Depot, I assume it can atleast heat your bedroom.

your apt was probably at a consistant temperature above 64 for some time. to me it's like a 'body adjustment' or a 'mind adjustment'

Outside:

When it goes from a consistant 80 to 50 you feel cold and wear a light jacket or sweater. But if it goes from consistant 20 to 50 you feel like it's 70 or 80 and feel comfortable in a t-shirt.

either way it's 50... wierd

I think the relative humidity plays a factor too, in terms of 'feel'.

All this dry air from heaters. ack.
