"BUT NOTHING! NOW ZIP YOUR SNIVELLING LITTLE LIP AND HAUL YOUR SKINNY ASS OUT OF HERE!!!
I don't consider that cracking, do you?"

Maybe it's just because I'm such a huge Phil Hartman fan, but I felt the show was really lacking after his death.

actually, i'm pretty sure that was it's original relase date, but it has been moved to a TBD status b/c they are going to add more extras. at least that is the reason i heard. i almost cried when i heard the word delayed, but when it's followed by the words more extras, you just can't complain...much.

Lovitz was such a minor part of the final season, which is continually maligned...unecessarily so.
Behold these last season classics...
Dave gets the white-noise machine and becomes "super-mellow".
Three-part episode where Jimmy is arrested for being D.B. Cooper, after being set up by the "purely evil" Johnny Johnson. Turns out D.B. Cooper was actually Adam West.
Max cures Lisa of her "speech impediment", which causes her to revert back her insanely thick Boston accent.
Matthew is hypnotized and is convinced he was the victim of ritual abuse, so he decides to harass the supposed ringleader, Lisa.
Joe & Beth paint the mural in the building's lobby...the immortal "Stinkbutt".
Matthew turns 30, flips out, and decides he's a 1977-era British punk.
Johnny Johnson comes back as the King of The Winos.
I love the final season.

I heard that also. Something to the tune of Paul Simms being really unhappy with the lack of features and taking time out of his schedule to jump in and give his fans something extra. A gentleman in the truest sense.
Rolling Stone (http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/academy/8183/rstone758.html) That article is fucking awesome. A perfect example of a man who doesn't care and is having the time of his life doing what he loves.

Stinkbutt was great. It was still pretty good, but nowhere near the Phil Hartman days. I didn't have the same sense of magic as those other seasons.
I'm pretty sure that the complaint box was the funniest thirty minutes television has ever seen.

Didn't the final season also include the great "Jimmy James Secrets of Buisness" to Lisa episode? If not the addition of Puddy from Seinfeld did make the final season awesomely funny as well as the mellow machine. I had no idea this set was coming out and sadly this is the best news I've gotten in 04. My ham sandwich had a good bite in it after all.

GIVE THE REST OF THE CAST SOME FUCKING CREDIT.
Hartman ruled, but this show was ensemble all the way. Lovitz's character type was totally different from Phil's, so I don't get why the two are always compared.

A big part of the ensemble was Phil's relationship with the rest of the cast. Speaking of which, the show lost Phil and Khandi Alexander at about the same time. Maybe it was the combined loss of that part of the cast that caused it to fade, IMO. From my view, the cast just didn't seem into it by show's end.

so I don't get why the two are always compared.
of course they are gonna get compared. Both SNL vets, Lovitz basically had to fill the gap left by the departed Hartman. They have to get compared because that was the only change in the show.
As far as the rest of the cast, it was the only time Rogan was funny, and one of Dave Foley's best moments. And the boss Jimmy Jones was probably the best character on the show.
The comparison was and still is inevtibale. goes with any show. The end of MASH when Alan Alda did more behind the camera, Roseanne when Becky 2 came around, and the Daily Show when Craig Kilborn left.

I am becoming wary and sad.
Amazon.com and a few other sites out there are still listing the release date as not being finalized because the studio has pulled it. Further searching shows, as someone mentioned here, that the scuttlebutt is series creator Paul Simms wanted to bulk up the DVD with a ton of extras, since Sony was just going to release a bare-bones package this coming Tuesday, so the release date has been pushed back to a vague "later this year".
On the other hand, Tuesday is still listed as the release date with pretty much all the major retail outlets, and they're all pre-selling it, so who knows?
Just give me SOMETHING "Newsradio"-related on Tuesday!

Just give me SOMETHING "Newsradio"-related on Tuesday!
Well, Tuesday the 3rd is Bill Murray day, isn't it? LOST IN TRANSLATION and ED WOOD both come out on DVD. Both wonderful movies showcasing Bill, a former SNLer, much like Phil Hartman - who appeared with together with Murray in the 1990 film, QUICK CHANGE.
Not thick enough?
Well, ED WOOD is directed by Tim Burton who cowrote PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE with Phil Hartman, who appeared as a reporter in the movie.
Maura Tierney appeared in PRIMARY COLORS with John Travolta, who costarred with Nicolas Cage in the John Woo film FACE/OFF; Cage is the cousin of Sophia Coppola, who directed LOST IN TRANSLATION, which comes out on Tuesday.
ALSO...Dave Foley was "Flick" from A BUGS LIFE. A movie that co-starred the vocal talents of the late, great Madeline Kahn, who also appeared in the original MUPPET MOVIE, which costarred Milton Berle, who also appeared in IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD with Jim Baccus, who was Thurston Howell the 3rd on "Gilligan's Island," whose first season ALSO comes out on DVD this Tuesday!

AND no "Ed Wood," either.
So hopefully the rumors are true that Simss wants to add more to the DVD, and it wasn't just scrapped altogether.
In slightly happier news, "Newsradio" repeats will return to TV on March 1st on the Biography Channel through the fall when A&E's deal to run the show runs out.

More than a year after the original supposed release date, the "Newsradio" DVD has an OFFICIAL release date.
May 25th, 2005.
Yeah, five months away, but still, better than the limbo it was in before. It's the first two seasons in one package as before, but now it's loaded with special features courtesy of the shows creator, Paul Simms, with full involvement of the entire cast (minus Hartman, obviously).
