View Full Version : What do you think Comedy Central's strategy was?

Why did comedy central not only stop showing SNL, but now they show Mad TV every fucking minute of the day?

The only thing I can think of is they thought their ratings we're to high and they wanted to lower them a lot. Cause MadTV is the worst show I have seen.

P.S. Mad TV isn't that good. and Com Central played the hell out of the good SNL episodes. Either way were out of luck.

Reno 911 wasn't that bad...it was actually pretty funny in the faux-documentary way.
those guys (the state/viva variety crew) usually come out with really different comedy. i liked it.

It is becoming quite clear to me why I rarely if ever find any of you people funny.
edit: I will clarify. Classic SNL's are funnier than Mad TV, however if comedy central is going to go with a sketch comedy show that isn't dated, the new SNLs SUCK MAJOR ASS CONSISTENTLY, whereas Mad TV is quite entertaining. Therefore, they can still do marathons of old SNLs every so often, and have a contemporary sketch comedy show to air regularly.
Reno 911 is better than Chapelle by infinite numbers.

"Reno 911" and "Chappelle's Show" are equally brilliant, but in completely seperate ways, so trying to compare them is retarded. There's room for both on the channel.
"Mad TV" is officially the worst sketch comedy ANYTHING...EVER.
The SNL reruns were moot, because they refused to show any of the episodes from the first five years, so anything else was pointless.
Comedy Central showing either show is not an issue, since as long as they have "Kids In The Hall", any other sketch comedy show is useless.
And until CC stops showing "The Man Show", "Who's Line Is It Anyway" and those awful late night cartoon rejects, every programming choice they make is suspect and subject to ridicule.

Reno 911 was not brilliant. There were some good lines, but it's bot in the class of brilliant or even memorable tv series.

The first few seasons were pretty good. Artie Lange, David Herman, Orlando Bloom (pre 7-up). Those were some good times. Now, the only thing they have going for them is Alex Bornstein. Anyone who says women aren't funny needs a dose of that.

I agree with the mad tv sucking. what about running " the state"
getting rid of the lame ass cartoons would be a help.
chapelle show funniest thing
tough crowd next funniest thing
reno 911 was funny as hell
i think that the strategy is getting better, but i'm sure that the syndication rights on SNL was astronomical, and they wanted to put there money into there own programming.

Preaching to the chior my brother.
First season of Mad TV was probably the best line-up they had. David Hermann, Orlando Jones, Artie Lange (who first time coming out I swear was the reincarnation of Belushi after his "I do drugs" bit), Phil LaMarr and those claymation Rudolph clips and spoof commercials had me on the floor and in tears. The Lowered Expectations bits were incredibly funny too.
At the time it was the best most funniest variey I had seen in some time. Then I believe the year after is when SNL really came back and had the high standard of comedy again. My timeline may be blurred cause that all took place during my acid and speed years.
Honestly, the only good programming I see on CC anymore (besides Kids) is when they show the random 80's movie on the weekends.
Reno 911, I never got (too smart for me, like Sports Night or Dharma & Greg).
South Park is past it's peak and should have stopped a few years ago. Great things never go out on top. They always stick around until they get tired. Kind of like Aerosmith.
Chappelle's Show, I chuckled and it seems ok I guess.
The Man show was finished when Kimmel and Corolla left.
Who's Line is pretty funny but NOT the British version.
Tough Crowd is probably the closest thing to brilliance on that channel.
I did mention Kids In The Hall being the best variety show in the last 15 years, right?

Any SNL episode that ran from 1992-1996 was pure comedy gold, and will hold it's own against any brand new episode of Mad TV. Operaman (Sandler) singing about STP and doing Vedder's voice during the news report song still makes me cry laughing. People also don't realize just how great of an improv comic David Spade was.

This is what happened. E! got the rights and SNL had to turn to some other hourlong comedy show to fill 18 hours of programming a day.

I agree first, maybe second, season of MadTV was funny, but those aren't the eps they're showing. The reoccurring characters like the chinese lady and the high pitched boy make me want to shoot myself.
The SNLs CC showed had some funny skits, but it wasn't worth watching whole eps to catch them b/c the show was way too inconsistent and also tried to reply on crappy reoccurring characters.
And whomever said Alex Borstin was funny needs a trepanning session. She's good on Family Guy, but she sucks otherwise.
