View Full Version : Movie that SHOULD be Remade.

Alrighty then...
I saw 'Big Fish' and as the trailers flew by I saw a most menacingly but hotly lit Nicole Kidman as the next of the Stepford Wives.
So, as Hollywood seems to have utterly given up on originality and is sequelphilic, I wondered about movies that I really love, but are dated, and perhaps really Should have another go as a re-make.
Two I have thought of often.
1. Charlie aka Charly aka Flowers for Algernon.
This book just kicked ass for me, and the movie did too, back in the day. It really comes off as dated now; the 60's-ish lo-tech fades, and stills, and other elements really make me cringe now. Cliff Robertson won the Oscar for playing Charlie Gordon, and well deserved, but this one could use a touch up, I say.
2. Fatso
This is one of the most hysterically funny and pathetic movies of all time for me. Easily DeLuise's best, if you haven't seen it, it's basically him in a wonderfully ethnic new york dealing with being overweight. I want this remade if only to get it out there again; I think it was drop-down funny, and also had some real tear-jerker moments, bur again, dated, doesn't transfer well into this generation, like Charile.
SO: Anyone?
Hey, and I say we can include ones already re-made, like the Shit Sandwich that I wont even count as a Godzilla movie. Yes, that one.
PS: If this is weak, it's the effects of me being to lazy to turn off the KajaGooGoo VH-1 thing. Wow this is really bad. Like Fred Gwynne said in Pet Semetary, sometimes Dead Is Better.

I'm not a fan of remakes. Not only because they show a complete lack of originality but because they capture a point in time and that shouldn't be tampered with.
However, I think a good remake would be 1966's "Fantastic Voyage". The premise is still plausible and the filmmaking technology we have today offers a lot more possibilities than what existed in the original's day.

However, I think a good remake would be 1966's "Fantastic Voyage".
Perfect! 'Inner Space' was good; but again, when young, Fantastic Voyage was both exhilirating, and scary as hell.
Maybe it's movies you wish people would see, but you know they're gonna be like 'oh man, what is this shit? it's weak!'
I could see someone saying that for Fantastic Voyage And Inner Space. With the CGI these days, it would kick ass. And go inside somebody with a shitload of diseases so we can see all the gross stuff.
Perhaps an Ejaculation to end the movie this time.
Wow, that's sick.
Wadd, you're nuts but your casting is Impeccable.

Based on the success of Steven Soderbergh's Ocean 11, I'd like to see a big name director remake Sidney Lumet's Murder on the Orient Express.
I can see a Ewen McGregor or a Johnny Depp chewing scenery the way Albert Finney did.
Perhaps Gene Hackman in the Richard Widmark role.
Maybe Meryl Streep or Susan Sarandon in the Ingrid Bergman part.

I'm with AJ that remakes are usually a horrific idea, and usually only end up tainting the reputation of the original. But they sometimes work.

Good call. Make the gangs scary again.
"Night of the Hunter" - This was a great movie; great actors, beautifully shot, and great story. But the cultural setting, the people of that time and place, is too far gone from now. This could be a great adaptation to a modern setting. They'd just have to avoid all the shitty cliche formulas from all the "Fatal Attraction" psycho stalker movie rip-offs there've been.
Kubrick's "The Killing" would be great, especially if done by a Tarantino, who took some ideas for "Reservior Dogs." Soderburg could pull it off. It's got such great characters and dialogue.
"The Best Years of Our Lives" - The themes of war that are a part of every war, yet rarely touched in films. Should be adapted after every major American war.
"The Lost Weekend" - By far the best movie about alcoholism ever, and it's almost 60 years ago. And somebody needs to make a movie about recovery that doesn't suck.
"The Defiant Ones" - Would be intersting with an Arab and an Israeli.
"Alferd Packer: The Musical!" - Trey Parker needs to make this again, but make it funny this time.

A new Wizard of Oz called Munchkinland where we discover everything that happened before Dorothy showed up in Oz. Chris Katan can play the flying monkey with the heart of gold (and the poo of silver); Scarlett Johanson can play Glinda the Good Witch; Dakota Fanning can play the queen of Munchkinland; Whoopi Goldberg as the Wicked Witch of the East; Kyle McLaughlin as the Wicked Witch of the West; Jim Carrey is the Scarecrow; Tim Allen is the Tin Man; and the guy who is the big fat obnoxious fiance can play the Lion. Special appearance by Fez Marie Whatley as The Wizard of Oz.
A modernized Auntie Mame, with Scarlett Johanson playing the hip, punk rock gal about town set in the NY of the early 1980s, and has to raise her dead brother's brat. It would have an awesome soundtrack.
A remake of the musical Oh! Calcutta! statting Charleze Theron, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate and Scarlett Johanson.
Day the Earth Stood Still with Robin Williams, Scarlett Johanson and Judd Nelson as the President of the United States.
An American remake of Fellini's 8 1/2 starring Scarlett Johanson and Charleze Theron.
At Play in the Fields of the Lord starring Kelsey Grammar, Roseanne Barr, Matt LeBlanc, Tom Waits and Scarlett Johanson.
Ashton Kircher and Keanu Reeves are Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, which would be the feature film debut from Scarlett Johanson...director!
A role reversal Sunset Blvd., where a young female screenwriter (Scarlett Johanson) becomes involved with an over the hill actor, who is delusional about his come back - Howard Stern.
The First Tango In Paris starring Jack Nicholson, Scarlett Johanson and Danny Devito (reunited for the first time with Jack since Cuckoo's Nest) as Jack's penis!
Actually...being serious for a very small second, there was a wonderful creepy 1970s movie called The Other, about twin boys on the farm and the bad things that happen to people they don't like, that, unfortunatly, is a little dated now, which would be a perfect candidate for a remake, as most people have never seen the original.

the Hulk with a driector who knows something about comic books and what comicbook fans want and no stupid hulk dogs or 50mins of put me to sleeps no Hulk smash at $10 a ticket
et with the guns back in their hands and no extra sceens
I would also like to se a remake of dead poets society
and i too wold like every female lead replace with Scarlett Johanson
and i would like just the make out sceen of crul intentions and wild things remade with Scarlett Johanson and Eliza Dushku

They should not remake movies. It's possible to make a new film with characters from a previous film but even that usually sucks.
Just write a new story you lazy fucks! (I'm talking to those people in hollywood who make crap)
They don't remake books do they? then why do they remake Movies so much? just make a movie based on a good book if you can't think of any. Elmore Leonard has TONS of books out there.

"Roadhouse" with an all midget cast. That movie RULES!!!!
"Death Race 2000" starring Halle Berry, Robin Givens, Matthew Broderick, Kelsey Grammar.
"ALIVE!" starring the 2000 US Women's World Cup Soccer Team (something about Brandi Chastain taking big bite of Hamm does something for me)

Logan's Run (the concept was originally copied from Hitchcock, and copied numerous times since including Minority Report about one man versus the "establishment"
They're doing it. Bryan Singer, who will soon be directing everything, including traffic on your street, to direct.

Speaking of Parker and Stone, they were going to remake The Day After Tomorrow, scene for scene, but use marionettes instead of actors and call it Team America. They were persuaded that it wouldn't get released in that format, so instead they're making a send up of big budget, CGI laden, blockbusters with marionettes. It's about a group of superheroes traveling the globe and fighting terrorism. It's name is Team America: World Police
