For some reason late last night I started thinking about the Pixies and I remenbered how much I used to listen to them. I never saw them live but I did see Frank Black twice and he alone was amazing. So how bout it any Pixies fans here.
p.s. if at some previous point this was discussed I don't care I'm not searching so there.

The Pixies brought it, and they brought it mightily.
God bless 'em.
And the Breeders by default.

Great band; this was the last time I caught them as the Pixies. Anyone else from the area at this show? Musta been 60,000+. What a Day.
And amazingly, I never say Robert Smith and Edward Scissorshands together at once. Gets ya thinkin'...

Unfortunately I got into the Pixies after they split so I never had the chance to see them live. But they were a great band.

I like about 'em "Debaser" and I like about 'em "Wave of Mutilation"! And does anyone else think of jelly doughnuts when they hear "Wave of Mutilation" 'cause I know I do!

Mizzle - I was there! It rocked! They all rocked!
The Pixies were a great band. Frank Black as a solo artist started strong, but hasn't quite held up over the years. I mean, he's still good - just not Pixies-level good.

I'm a big, big Pixies fan, and i did get to see them live. They have apparently reunited, but it's not yet clear whether it's a one-off gig for a festival, or whether they will be touring. I'm really hoping for the latter.

i love the pixies. i want them to have my babies.
the uk surf version of "wave of mutilation" (found on the "pump up the volume" soundtrack) might be one of the sexiest songs ever.

Heck, I'm upset I didn't see this post till now because quite frankly I'm a Pixies craxed fanatic. Definitely, without question, one of my favorite bands of all time- though I haven't listened to them much as of late. One time back in high school I won tickets to go see Frank Black...I was so excited and then at the last second the show got canceled. And come to think of it... they never did give me that alternate prize they promised me.
Bastards.

Hey I got a mod quote, now i do feel like a cool kid.
Did anyone else notice that the "cool" kids in high school or whatever for the most part never amounted to anything. In fact they seemed to stay at that phase including dress and hair styles.

Yeah, I just saw an ex-cool kid with Flock of Seagulls hair and a checkerboard jacket covered in pins at the supermarket. :p
And I too got into the pixies after they broke up, but we'll see about this summer...

It's true:
After a lengthy 'will they or won't they' debate, the Pixies have confirmed that they are planning a full US and European tour for later this year.
The band are already confirmed to appear at this year's Coachella festival in California. The tour will be their first since 1993.
A spokesman for the band remarked that details are yet to be finalised, but told reporters: "For a long time, it was far from certain that this would actually happen. However, you may be interested to learn that, at last, the reunion has been confirmed. Their booking agents have been confirming shows with promoters over the last few days."
The Pixies are expected to play a series of warm up shows prior to Coachella, probably in Canada. Other festival appearances have been rumoured, including Glastonbury and T in the Park, as well as a possible support slot on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' European tour this summer.
No word of a new album, but a dvd with all their videos and a live concert is in the works.

Also, there's a free Pixies tribute album (http://www.frankblack.net/tribute/hey.asp) available for download. It's inconsistent, as most tribute CDs are, but there are some interesting covers on there.

Along what Mikey was talking about, the only tribute album I can stand is one for the Pixies. Even more amazing, most of the bands on there usually suck, yet somehow managed to rock based on the power of the Pixies.

From today's Washington Post:
For once, the Internet rumors are true: Indie-rock legends the Pixies have announced a reunion tour. The Boston-born group, featuring bassist-vocalist Kim Deal (lately of the Breeders) and guitarist-vocalist Frank Black, will perform together for the first time in more than a decade. The tour kicks off April 14 in (of all places) Winnipeg, Manitoba, and culminates May 1 at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in California. (No D.C. date yet.) The group's label, 4AD, is also readying a retrospective CD and a DVD titled simply "Pixies."
Great news all around, altough I'm wary any time a band double-dips on retrospective CDs. Do we really need another one besides "Death to the Pixies"?

Misson of Burma and Dinosaur Jr.'s reunions piss all over the Pixies'. What's the matter, fatasses can't take time out of their busy eating schedule to write and record some new songs?
