I'm glad Ron brought this up because I was screaming about it during the half time show, that Kid Rock (Mr. Rock if you are nasty) using the flag as a "pancho" was disrespectful and runs against the official "Flag Code." (http://suvcw.org/flag.htm)

Sec. 8. - Respect for flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.

(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.

In many ways I think it's a little scary - we are the only nation in the world that pledges allegence to an inanimate object, which is a little creepy. And I've always agreed with Ron and Fez that it is weird that we force children to do something while adults don't have to in their day to day lives.

However, all of these people that wrapped theirselves around the flag after 9/11, calling people unpatriotic, don't know the flag code they supposedly defend.

raw talent, He even has Pdiddy beat.
He knows that an entire country of mindless zombified sheep are watching the game and a good portion of them will go out and buy his music now...JUST for wearing the flag.

The Flag only means one thing to bussiness men like George Bush and Soda companies now...
MONEY

I think we should just make the American Flag a fucking dollar sign.

I always thought it's better to show respect for some symbol to 'unite' people than to have large murals of our "Leader" plastered all over the place...you go live under an ayatollah, then

This should have gone in Politics, but I was giving feedback to some thing that happened during "The Fasted Hour" today.

(Do you think it was live, or did they do it late on Friday?? haha)

After 9/11, Patriotism became the new religion in this country, with the United States flag becoming like a crucifix, and our government has used this a smoke screen to do some very, very troubling things.

I always thought it's better to show respect for some symbol to 'unite' people than to have large murals of our "Leader" plastered all over the place...you go live under an ayatollah, then

Yeah...I'll go do that, because I hate this country so much. (By the way, have you ever walked into any federal building in this country, and seen whose the first face to greet you? Or every school??)

Hey, I'm just bringing up stuff I learned from working with historians whose specialty is the American flag.

Truth is, I sing louder than anyone around me at games during the anthem; I've gotten misty at certain occasions where the flag has been; I'm very proud of our flag and for what it stands for - I just find it hypocritical that those who would scream about "flag burners" don't even know the code themselves, and are more than likely the first to break it, and i find it creepy that we force children (and only children) to behave in a nationalistic ritual that brings to mind other nations that did the same thing to their youth.

I didn't mean that to sound the way it does, sorry. I still don't see many, if at all *outdoor* murals of GWBush.

Also, your point is well taken....I certainly learned to 'Pledge Allegiance' by rote, long before I knew what it meant....as well as Xmas carols in Polish (which I still don't speak)

i have never, ever liked half time shows and i really do hate the nfl for churning out shit like this year after year.

and i'm fucking tired of these "stars" behaving like this and then coming back with an apology/ statement to cover their asses.

kid rock is a no talet hack who disrepected a symbol of the independence/ liberty that men and women are dying for. and shut the fuck up if you think that dessecrating the flag is freedom of speech: granted it is, but it is an unwritten rule that it should not be done. legally there is no penalty but i think it's about time for society to wise up and shun people for these irresponsible actions.

It's not disrespect, but ignorance. Kid Rock was trying to make a positive statement and unwittingly failed. I bet there are some of you who incorrectly have a flag bumper sticker. That's disrespectful as well, but not out of any malice on your part.

and flag bumper stickers are no comparison. the intentions are good, just technically not appropriate. the flags on car antennas was far worse a couple of years ago; within a few months they littered the lie and such. fortunately, when traffic was bad, you could get out of your car and pick them up.

and honestly for all the people who have a flag on the outside of there house, you are disrespecting the flag if you don't either

a) roll it up at night and unfurl in the morning

-or-

b) keeping a light shining on it at night.
but people don't know. kid rock was trying to be patriotic, not disrespectful. he just got it wrong.

At first I thought it wasn't an actual flag, which would make it "ok" by the code, but on closer inspection we realized it was a real flag he was wearing, and a bunch of people where I was watching the game were pissed.

are the only nation in the world that pledges allegence to an inanimate object,Do you know for a fact that is a truthful statement? I'd be surprised if it were.
while adults don't have to in their day to day lives.
While most don't, true, isn't it said in courtrooms? Not to mention that Congress says it every day. We also have the National Anthem at most sprting events and other public gatherings, which is also a ritual. (One destroyed every summer by Baltimore Orioles "fans" who shout "O!" right in the middle of it...)
The Flag only means one thing to bussiness men like George Bush ... money
I suppose you're supposed to be entitled to an opinion, no matter how off-base. I, for one, don't believe this statement holds even the barest minimum of truthfulness. At best, it's emptiness taints your other opinions.
I just find it hypocritical that those who would scream about "flag burners" don't even know the code themselves,
Has Kid Rock been out there calling anybody flag burners?! Who is the "those" and "them" you are referring to?
I bet there are some of you who incorrectly have a flag bumper sticker.
It is not incorrect to have a bumper stocker with a picture of a flag on it. It WOULD be incorrect to hang an actual flag from your bumper.

I don't think it's a huge issue, People are wrapping themselves in the flag, not to worship the flag itself, but the country it's a symbol of.

I guess if you do go out and buy a real flag, you should find out about the flag code (just to make sure it's displayed properly, I can't count the number of times I've seen the flag displayed vertically, yet backwards)

From Sec. 8:

(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature

My issue isn't with when people who want to show pride in their country and accidently break the "rules." It's when they then try to be the moral barometer and begin hollering how other people don't respect this country or the flag, simply because they disagreed with whatever the popular national position was at the moment - which was saw a lot last year, as we marched on into war.

During the big protest before the war last year, there were a bunch of pro-war supporters who were yelling at everyone else about bein un-patriotic, one even had a sign that said "Go burn a flag!" Meanwhile, half of them had clothing that violated this very same "code."

Like I said earlier, the only reason I actually know this is because I worked with a historian whose specialty was the American Flag. Anyway, I do stand corrected; according to what research I just did, only two countries in the world have a Pledge of Allegiance to the flag - the USA and the Philippines.

I will triple check with the historian at some point.

(One destroyed every summer by Baltimore Orioles "fans" who shout "O!" right in the middle of it...)

And don't forget the Atlanta fans who scream, "Home of the braves..."

If a flag is on the bumper of a car, that is the exact level of disrespect as Kid Rock.

they are used on battle fatigues they are worn on the sleves the reason for the reverse patch is so that the flag is flying in the same direction which ever side you stand on looking at the flag appears to be waveing from a point anchored in the person's front to make the apearance that the flag is moving froward if the patch was not reversed than it would give the apearance that the person was retreating

now i'm not a big fan of kid rock post devil without a cause, but i can say this he has never been disrespetful to the flag, but only showing pride in where he comes from and what he salutes. so yes it was probably a slight gimmick, but more trying to show respect.... again failing miserably.
