i've always heard that blow drying damages your hair... then i heard that it was a myth. i also heard that only excessive blow drying is bad.

with all this cold weather, i've been needing to blow dry my hair often; i usually just let it air dry.

so, what's the real story?

I dunno, but I suggest you keep blowing.

I would think that excessive hot dry air is not that good for it. Hair is essentially dead, but the scalp is alive and if you dry it out, youll get other problems. Try using a low setting or with cool air if possible.

it certainly can be a job. i hear it can suck the moisture out of your hair.

Blow drying is awful for your hair but there are precautions that you can take to protect it, particularly the ends. If you use low heat, and moisturizer on the ends particularly it works.

I'd say wash your hair as little as possible and instead of blow drying, use the dryer helmets. The rollers keeps your ends protected and the hair last longer without frizzing.

I agree with Silera.

If you DO need to wash often (like me, since I have fine hair) and blow dry, try a hot oil treatment at least once a month. Regular trims will deal with split ends.
