Hot for Teacher
are 20 years OLD ?!?!
Sheesh When did THIS happen?
I know subtraction isn't my strong suit, but I can't believe that these songs are 20 years old now. Two Decades. That's grow up, get married, have a kid time. I was not warned. I was given no memo. I just woke up, looked across to the "1984" Van Halen Album Cover, and was like:
That's old? Those are oldies? Are they Golden?
OK; Sports Fans. Anyone else wanna look back in horror and realize how old some of their 'newer' music is. Not that 1984 is a newer album. But for peeps like me who bought VH1, it sure seems fresh.
20 years. 2 Decades!! A score!! sheeesh. What other albums are 20 or older now? Discuss.

OH: And I was listening to the News about Reagen turning 93. I will sound like a fossil, but when I was in high school, the USSR was the big threat, and there was a Wall seperating Berlin. If you had told me back then these two things would no longer exist I'd have punched you in the spine. Impossible.

It was 37 years ago today, Sgt Pepper taught the Band to play...
I remember Scott Muni making a big deal when it was 20 years.

It does seem kind of bizarre to me that this came out nearly a quarter century ago:

I was listening to Q104.3 yesterday (classic rock, for those outside NY) and Panama was on.
After the song, the DJ commented how it was on of the few perfect albums out there. And beginning to end, the albums just rocks, so I'm inclined to agree.
When he finished talking, the promo they ran talked about how all weekend, they will be celebrating 40 years of the Beatles all weekend with special shows and whatnot...

Metallica, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run-DMC and The Beastie Boys (Well, as a punk band) have all existed for 20 years or more now...

I remember buying this in 1984 and thinking that while I really liked the music, I couldn't understand a goddamned thing the lead singer was singing.

Does anyone remember "Friday Night Videos" on NBC? It was network MTV pretty much. My older cousin had a habit of taping (on her 1984 VCR that was the size of an aircraft carrier) almost every episode from 1983/84. I have one tape here that I broke out because of this thread (Lionel Richie's "Hello" and Mike's "Billy Jean").
I also had to come to the grim realization that my once-badass work car is a 20 year old has-been:

REM, U2, Springsteen, Violent Mother Fucking Femmes, Let's Active, Judas Priest, Footloose soundtrack - nothing like those mid 80s music.
Back in 1983/1984, in high school, I had a good female friend of mine who began dating one of our teachers, and eventually (after her graduation) she married the guy! "Hot For Teacher" and "Don't Stand So Close To Me" were their unofficial theme songs, and even now, 20 years later, whenever I think of those songs, albums and bands I think about them and all the shit they went through, which sadly didn't have a happy ending - will eventually make a brialliant movie.
