The only way I would vote for Sean Penn for anything is if he promised to kill himself during his acceptance speech.

I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, I wasn't there and if I was there I was asleep.

I vote that Yerdaddy has to stop using homoerotic thread titles.

Sean Penn's character in this movie wasn't retarded whatsoever, you commie freaks! I voted for him 'cause his performance was the BEST, you commies!! Go back to Russia, commies!! Penn for Beast Actor and President of U.S.of A. and Mayor of Iraq, commies, he rules! 21 Grams was also one of the best movies of the year and he was in that, too, Russians!!!

Anyone tha doesn't recognize how fucking good an actor Sean Penn is probably is just overly pissed that the latest Many Moore flick is already out of the theaters.

Again, "Splendor" got ficked over, and the rightful winner, Paul Giamatti, didn't even get nominated. So I'll go with Murray, because it WAS a fantastic performance, though I wish he had gotten something for "Rushmore" instead.

And Ben Kingsley is brilliant in "The House of Sand & Fog," but he's pretty much the only thing that saves that film from being a wreck (Same for Penn and the HUGELY overrated "Mystic River." He's better in "21 Grams."). Kingsley shoulda won for "Sexy Beast." Fuck this noise.

And Depp's had at least a dozen roles where he acted his way around what he did in "Pirates." To finally give him an Oscar for THAT would be an insult. He's hilarious and all in that film...but Oscar? Come on...

Agreed. His acting chops are spectacular, as evidenced by his early runs. My only caveat is he can run hot and cold, and might take some stinker roles, but agreed.

Hey, don;t know about anyone else, but you wanna see a movie with three actors, almost eerily at their respective best in my opinion?

TAPS.

Cruise as Psychotic War Lover. Fantastic. One of his best.

Hutton as the flipped-out soldier. Only problem with this role is it was far outrdone by his Oscar-grabbing 'Ordinary People' role. But again, great.

And Penn as the go-between, with also a short fuse, and in for Cruise. Fucking Awesome. Hey, I'm biased a bit about the movie, but all three don;t measure up to the early angst and anger each held.

I want Murray to win for two reasons.

-Ronnie B. fave wins

-Cred long overdue for Bill Murray, and all the Not Ready for Prime Time Players, many of who put the oscar winning actors of today to shame.

Oops, which remind me:

Is Bill Murray the first of the

Not Ready for Prime Time Players

to be Oscar Nominated? I'm guessing not, but... hmmm..

Ask and ye shall receive....

Dan Aykroyd was nominate for Best Supporting Actor for "Driving Miss Daisy" in 1989

Other SNL alumni with nominations are:

Joan Cusack (best supporting actress in 1988 for "Working Girl" and in 1997 for "In & Out"

Robert Downey, Jr. (best actor nomination in 1992 for "Chaplin")

Sean Penn is one of the best American Actors working today and he should be recognized for his work in one of the best films of the year, instead of one of those make-up awards years from now.

His equally amazing performance in "21 Grams" could have also been nominated, but he couldn't have run against himself in the same catigry.

Bill Murray was wonderful, and if it was any other year I would say he was a shoe-in, but I really believe that Penn's performance is right up there with Charleze's in MONSTER.

I was really let down by "Mystic River." It basically completely fell apart in the last 20-30 minutes.

Yeah, the performances are good, but giving Penn an award for this movie is like the travesty of giving Denzel Washington the Oscar for "Training Day" as opposed to something like "Malcolm X." Penn winning for this WOULD be a make-up award, since he should have already won for "Sweet and Low Down."

Well, you and yerrdaddy are in agreement about the last bit of MYSTIC RIVER - I finally saw it, and while it's not my favorite movie of the year, I think Clint pulled off something pretty good, and I thought Penn was wonderful.

I wouldn't feel it was a make up for him not receiving the award for his performances in CARLITO'S WAY, DEAD MAN WALKING, COLORS, SWEET AND LOWDOWN or even THIN RED LINE, not to mention his earliest work in BAD BOYS and TAPS.

Bill Murray

Though he was great in "Lost in Translation", I feel it's more honoring his earlier works, "Meatballs" & "Stripes".

I was referring to his work as a lead actor. Carl, though fantastic, was a supporting role, and as Bill Murray used to say on SNL, the supporting awards don't really matter.

According to yesterday's Wash Post, the SAG award, which Johnny Depp won for best actor, is the best predictor of acting oscars, 6 of the last 10, so I'm liking my Depp pick more and more. And hating it too.
