I went with Charlize, but would have gone with Scarlett Johansen if she was nominated because for some reason I think she is way hotter.

I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything, I wasn't there and if I was there I was asleep.

Charlize Theron in no contest. She should dominate this category.

It's insane Scarlett wasn't nominated. I actually prefer her to Murray in "Translation."

And "Monster" is so fucking overrated it's not even funny. Theron is alright...everyone is just impressed with how much they uglied her up. Her actual performance is slightly above average at best.

I'm voting for the woman from "In America," since it was a magnificent film that got shafted pretty much everywhere else.

Theron'll get it because this award typically goes to twats who completely blow their careers after winning it. Theron has that written all over her.

I voted for Charlize THeron mostly 'cause if I ever met her I'd like to call her Charlie and then engage in guerilla warfare with her! *imitating machine gun noise*

Just got back from 'Monster'

I don't follow stars that much, so Charlize Theron to me is a recognizable, but not very familiar actress to me.

No way would I have thought that was her in a million years.

It's easy to slap on some prosthetics; she becomes this psychotic beast. I read about this case for years, when it was happening. They nailed Florida too. Many familiar sites.

No Spoilers, but many have complained that the movie is more sympathetic to Wuernos then it is the victims. I agree; if anything, she was worse then they portrayed her. At the real trial she blamed everyone, the Police, the Judge, The Gulf War; I'm serious. She was that nuts.

All that aside, this was acting it that pure sense, really inhabiting that character.

Ricci, as usual: Over-hyped. She's very good, but Variations on a Theme of all her roles.

[EDIT: Oh, and anyone else ever Drink at The Last Resort Bar?]

It's easy to slap on some prosthetics; she becomes this psychotic beast. I read about this case for years, when it was happening. They nailed Florida too. Many familiar sites.

From what I read, she actually didn't wear any prosthetics. She gained 30-35 pounds, and had a tental piece in her mouth that gave her face the constant frown. Then she ruined her own hair. Since it was such a tight budget, they didn't have time to spend putting on make-up - she spent and average less than 30 - 40 minutes getting make-up on.

No Spoilers, but many have complained that the movie is more sympathetic to Wuernos then it is the victims. I agree; if anything, she was worse then they portrayed her. At the real trial she blamed everyone, the Police, the Judge, The Gulf War; I'm serious. She was that nuts.

I thought the film did a good job of giving some framework for who she was and what happened to her - how it was sad that Ricci's character ever had faith in her, and how it was even sadder that she ever had faith in herself. Right away I picked up that she was unredeemable, and that they fooled themselves from the very start in believing she could be saved.

And I thought the film did an excellent job of not leaving any doubt that this woman deserved to be excecuted. You might have had some empathy for the characters on the screen and their situation, but not once does it (I think) try to excuse what she did, and (in fact) if they had gone the route of showing her as crazy as she is in those documentaries, then the movie really could have made the moral case about excecuting someone who never had a sense of reality.

This is actually the 4th movie on this woman - there are two documentaries by this filmmaker; one before she died, and a recent one that updates everything. Then, there was an early 1990s television movie with Jean Smart (!) in the role.

Ricci, as usual: Over-hyped. She's very good, but Variations on a Theme of all her roles.

Mizzle! What's going on here, my brother! I completely disagree with ye' again! This was maybe the most varied role she has done - I can't think of another time, since she was a little girl, that she ever played a character so naive and not in control of the situation. Her a-typcial role is the young woman sure of herself, who is usually the one who manipulates the situation, not the role of the love struck puppy, who is too stupid to realize what's going on.

Ya know, yer reading my mind from last night; as I was thinking about the flick; Ricci did do quite a really good job, much better then past roles.

Bad word using prosthetic; I meant the teeth, which for somereason I was fixated on. The thing for me was getting that 'all day in the sun for weeks' leathery skin. Very cool.

Samantha Morton is usually cuter than this. (Minority Report) There was only one black guy in the movie, and the report wasn't about him!

I voted for her, I thought she was cute as hell in that Jesus's Son movie. Her and Emily Watson drive me crazy for some reason.
