M$ is absolutely horrible with how they deal with security issues. This particular problem was brought to their attention over 200 days ago and they refused to address it because they didn't believe it would be a widespread problem. That is until it became an issue, now they're acting like their prompt and on top of things.

It was found by a US net security firm in July 2003, and was announced in Microsoft's monthly security bulletin on Tuesday.
What the fuck were they doing for 8 months?

Probably keeping the information away from the script kiddies while they came up with a patch.
But then again- 7 months to work up a patch? (Or actually 3).

They waited to release the info until they had one complete fix. The flaw appears to be among the worst ever discovered, allowing back door access (ooh!).
I have XP with auto update and the patch was available to me this morning.

I remember the first article I had read on this back in November and Microsoft at that time said they were not working on a patch and had no plans to work on one. I think the only reason they're addressing this now is that their finally getting some heat over this.

This is weird, because I'm getting an Apple Powerbook to use for music. Haven't used one since they inhabited classrooms.
Can't wait too see how Apple OS X is Vs. Windows. I think I already know.

They hadn't when the press release was issued, and I didn't check from work yesterday. oh well.
